South Halmahera, June 25, 2025 &mdash; Heavy rainfall has recently caused floods in several areas of North Maluku, including the cities of Ternate, Tidore, and Labuha. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Sultan Babullah Ternate had issued a warning about the intense rain. Although the flooding in Kawasi Village on Obi Island was brief, it still impacted residents in the area.
Responding to the situation, Harita Nickel stepped up to support local communities near its operations. The company quickly distributed around 8,000 basic food packages to affected residents to help meet their urgent needs during the emergency.

In addition to food assistance, Harita Nickel set up a health post at the village clinic (Polindes Kawasi), run by paramedics from Harita Nickel’s Clinic. The post provides free medical care, medicine, and supplements to help residents stay healthy amid the extreme weather.
“This aid reflects our commitment to always be present for the community, especially during tough times. “We want affected residents to know they’re not alone, we are here to support them through this,” said Ifan Farianda, Harita Nickel’s Community Development Manager.&nbsp;

Harita Nickel also provided clean water supplies to residents, as local water sources were disrupted by the flooding. The clean water is being distributed daily to several points across Kawasi Village to ensure residents' basic needs are met.

Nurdia, a migrant resident of Kawasi, expressed her gratitude, “At a time when we were struggling, Harita Nickel showed up with help, not just food, but clean water and healthcare too. Thank you for caring and not leaving us during this difficult time,” she said.&nbsp;

Beyond Kawasi, Harita Nickel will distribute 300 more food packages to flood-affected residents around Labuha City, where two subdistricts, Bacan and South Bacan, have been declared in a state of emergency by the South Halmahera government. The aid will be delivered through the local disaster response center (BPBD Halsel) on Tuesday, June 24.
Earlier in June, the company also provided 255 food packages to two villages near its operations in South Obi: Soligi (on June 13) and Wayaloar (on June 17). Each package contains 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of sugar, 2 liters of cooking oil, and a box of instant noodles.

Ifan emphasized that these efforts are part of Harita Nickel’s long-term commitment to building strong relationships with local communities, who play a key role in the company’s operations.

“For Harita Nickel, caring for local communities isn’t just about responding to emergencies. It’s a long-term commitment to growing together,” Ifan said. “We want our presence to help build resilience, independence, and long-lasting well-being for the people.”

Harita Nickel’s Support Amid Extreme Weather: Food, Clean Water, and Medical Aid

Jakarta, May 8, 2025 &mdash; PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), also known as Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company, has been awarded the Best Sustainability in Women’s Enterprise Partner at the Mata Lokal Fest 2025, hosted by Tribun Network at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta on Thursday (May 8, 2025). The award recognizes the company’s success and commitment in empowering communities around its operational area on Obi Island through the Obi Jaya Mandiri MSME program, which is managed by a group of local women.
The event, themed “Cutting Edge for Local Sustainability,” brought together national figures, sustainable development practitioners, and stakeholders from various sectors. Also in attendance was the Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Maman Abdurrahman, who spoke about several strategic issues that challenge MSMEs in moving up the value chain, particularly in terms of access to financing.

According to Maman, the Ministry’s role is to orchestrate efforts to resolve these obstacles.

“The challenges ahead are far from simple. Existing problems impact how we manage and mitigate issues faced by MSMEs. This gathering enables better communication between the government and stakeholders,” Maman stated in his speech.

The Mata Lokal Award 2025 was presented directly by Tribun Network’s Commercial Director, Handrianus Tjiptyantoro, to Latif Supriadi, Head of External Relations at Harita Nickel.

After receiving the award, Latif expressed gratitude and emphasized the ongoing commitment behind the recognition.

“Last year, we also received the same award. This is clear proof of our commitment to continuous growth. We dedicate this award to the women of Obi Island&mdash;what started with just three individuals has now grown to 45 women. They experience the benefits firsthand, not only for themselves but also for their families,” said Latif.

Obi Jaya Mandiri is a business group consisting of various MSME units developed through Harita Nickel’s CSR program on Obi Island, North Maluku. To date, there are seven business units under Obi Jaya Mandiri: Obi Snack, which produces snack foods; Hop Mart, a minimarket; Nyala Cafe and Prosa Cafe, both operating in the food and beverage sector; Promama, which processes virgin coconut oil (VCO) and coconut oil; RUTE Kawasi, which produces tempeh; and RUTE Soligi, which produces tofu.

The Obi Jaya Mandiri group was established through a participatory approach and is rooted in local needs. The initiative began with mapping out the potential and interests of local women, followed by skills training, business management guidance, and market access facilitation. Harita Nickel also provides support in the form of production facilities, ongoing mentorship, and partnerships with various stakeholders, including the government and related institutions. Through a strategy that emphasizes self-reliance and sustainability, this program is expected to continue growing and become a driver of community-based local economic development.

Harita Nickel Wins Best Sustainability in Women’s Enterprise Partner Award at Mata Lokal Fest 2025

Jakarta, May 2, 2025 – PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), also known as Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining company, received the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2025 for Empowering Local Communities through Social and Economic Innovation from Warta Ekonomi Group on Wednesday (April 30, 2025).
Harita Nickel was recognized for its strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility. The 13th Indonesia Corporate Social and Environmental Award (Indonesia CSR Award) 2025 was attended by the Expert Staff for Biodiversity and Socio-Cultural Sustainability, Noer Ali Wardojo. In a speech delivered by Noer Ali on behalf of the Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, the government expressed its appreciation for the companies’ consistent discipline in implementing CSR programs.
"Some of the key strategies companies can adopt include identifying the most relevant and impactful environmental and social issues to their business and stakeholders, enhancing multi-stakeholder collaboration, strengthening local community capacity, and conducting measurable impact assessments. One such method is the Social Return on Investment (SROI), which we have introduced in the PROPER program under the Ministry of Environment," explained Noer Ali.
Latif Supriadi, Head of External Relations at Harita Nickel, expressed gratitude that the company’s innovations around its operational area in Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku, have not gone unnoticed. He further elaborated that Harita Nickel’s commitment to sustainability in both environmental and social aspects adheres not only to national standards but also international benchmarks.
“Our latest sustainability commitment is currently undergoing an audit for the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). This is a globally recognized standard ensuring responsible mining practices. It is highly stringent and transparent. Harita Nickel is the first nickel mining and processing company in Indonesia to voluntarily adopt the IRMA standard,” said Latif.
Based on the company’s 2024 Community Development and Empowerment Performance Report, Harita Nickel collaborated with 65 local suppliers employing a total of 254 workers. This complements the total job creation through the company’s CSR programs, which reached 729 jobs in 2024. The total value of transactions between these local suppliers and the company amounted to IDR 150 billion.
“We recognize that the success of our CSR programs would not be possible without the support of various stakeholders. We continuously strive to involve local governments, communities, and strategic partners in every stage of planning and implementation. Our dialogue-based approach ensures that every step we take aligns with community needs and provides maximum benefit,” Latif concluded.
This year, Warta Ekonomi Group analyzed 114 companies with a strong CSR commitment and reviewed their published CSR reports. The analysis showed that 95.6% of companies already follow CSR management standards as mandated by Law No. 40 of 2007 and Government Regulation No. 47 of 2012 concerning Corporate Social Responsibility. Harita Nickel Honored at the 2025 Indonesia CSR Award for Its Environmental and Social Innovation Programs

Jakarta, April 29 2025 – PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), also known as Harita Nickel, a sustainable integrated nickel mining and processing company, continues its operational efficiency efforts by completing the construction of the PT Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS) ferronickel (FeNi) smelter in January 2025. The first phase of the smelter with Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology reached its full capacity in March 2025 and contributed to sales from Harita Nickel’s RKEF line which totaled 43,873 tons of nickel content in FeNi in the first quarter of 2025.
From the mining business line, Harita Nickel made total nickel ore sales of 5.49 million wet metric tons (wmt) to affiliated companies in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, from the High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) line in the same period, sales were recorded at 30,263 tons of nickel content, consisting of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) of 19,837 tons and Nickel Sulfate (NiSO₄) of 10,426 tons.
Citing the financial report for the fiscal period ending March 31, 2025, the company operating in South Halmahera, North Maluku, recorded revenue of IDR 7.13 trillion, gross profit of IDR 2.10 trillion and profit attributable to owners of the parent entity of IDR 1.66 trillion.
The decline in nickel prices over the past two years has left the nickel industry in a challenging condition. S&P Global data shows that nickel prices in 2025 will reach USD 15,078 per metric ton, the lowest point since 2020. Throughout 2024, the average price was recorded at USD 15,328 per metric ton or down 7.7 percent compared to the previous year.
Harita Nickel Finance Director, Suparsin D. Liwan in his press statement stated, “The current condition of the nickel industry has made business players make various efforts to boost operational efficiency, including Harita Nickel. The company continues to tighten operational costs for all business units and focuses on efforts to maintain long-term financial health.”
Another operational strategy carried out is to start construction work on a factory that produces quicklime, as a supporting material for the HPAL process and will increase the efficiency of supporting raw material costs.
Major challenges also still hang over the Indonesian nickel industry, ranging from global geopolitical dynamics, production balance, to strict environmental standards. Realizing this, in addition to efficiency, Harita Nickel also implements sustainability strategies to ensure long-term growth stability by completing the international mining standard audit process of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). This audit will be the first in Asia for an integrated nickel mining and processing company. Previously, the company had also completed the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) from the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). These two audits ensure responsible nickel procurement practices that meet international standards.
Harita Nickel has also completed the Landscape Level Nature Risk Assessment (LNRA) which strengthens environmental management and ensures a transparent approach to sustainable development in new concessions. Harita Nickel's other commitment to accountability and transparency in implementing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles is demonstrated by publishing its third sustainability report.
Harita Nickel Sustainability Director Lim Sian Choo added, “The Company has successfully increased its use of sustainable energy by 29.8% percent compared to 2023.”
One of Harita Nickel’s emission reduction contributions was by planting 2,025 mangrove seedlings on Obi Island and 1,750 seedlings in Kayoa, South Halmahera, in collaboration with the local government last year.
“Moving forward, Harita Nickel will continue to strengthen its commitment to maximizing efficiency, optimizing asset utilization, and integrating sustainability values into cost management. Including encouraging sustainability initiatives, community development and technological innovation,” concluded Sian Choo.

Prioritizing Sustainability, Harita Nickel (NCKL) Remains Focused on Operational Efficiency

Harita Nickel is committed to addressing recent stakeholder concerns regarding land use, food systems, and agricultural areas surrounding our operational area on Obi Island.
The resettlement of Kawasi Village is a <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/sustainability/human-rights/we-and-the-community/the-new-kawasi-settlement" target="_blank">government-led initiative</a> that Harita Nickel is proud to support. We provided a large parcel of&nbsp; inland land for this development, carefully selected through a <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/files/pdf_assets/Summary%20of%20LNRA%20Harita%20Nickel.pdf" target="_blank">Landscape Nature Risk Assessment</a> to avoid impacting the only sago forest near our operations. This forest, adjacent to the new village site, is set to become a conservation area with ecological and water monitoring for biodiversity purposes.

Harita Nickel includes food systems as part of its sustainability commitments. We ensured that independent environmental and social auditors assessed the site prior to development and they <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/316562865_The_Change_of_Local_Food_Consumption_Pattern_from_Sago_to_Rice_Case_Study_of_Social_Change_in_Central_Maluku" target="_blank">agree with academics</a> who determine that rice has now replaced sago as the main food source in the region.&nbsp;

Additionally, The One Village, One Supply Chain initiative is a community-driven program that helps villages establish local and national supply chains to support long-term economic independence.

To further ensure community wellbeing, all land negotiations uphold the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) outlined by the International Finance Corporation. We conduct community consultation, sentiment surveys, and offer a formal grievance mechanism to the community. All of these processes are currently under review by&nbsp;<a href="https://tbpnickel.com/media/news/operational/announcement-on-irma-audit-stage-2" target="_blank">independent IRMA</a> auditors.

Protecting water resources is equally central to our strategy. Harita Nickel employs a comprehensive tailings management system with groundwater monitoring, real-time <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/media/kabar-obi/k3l/kawasi-spring-preserved-residents-clean-water-is-at-hand" target="_blank">water quality checks</a>,&nbsp;and accredited third-party laboratory testing which is reported transparently to Indonesian authorities. Consistent with Good Mining Practices, results are regularly submitted to Indonesian authorities for audit. Our design includes sediment ponds, dry stack tailings, and engineered runoff controls to minimize impacts on waterways and agriculture.&nbsp;
