Responsible Supply Chain

What We Do
  1. Prioritizing Local Suppliers

Of our 1,169 suppliers in 2023, 164 (14%) are local businesses from North Maluku. This number has increased significantly compared to 2020, which only had 35 local suppliers.

  2. Issuance of a new Responsible Procurement Policy

In 2023, Harita Nickel issued a Responsible Procurement Policy as a step to ensure all suppliers, vendors, and contractors operate in accordance with good environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

  3. Minimizing the Risk of Mineral Conflicts

To date, Harita Nickel has not obtained goods/services from conflict-affected or high-risk areas. However, we are aware that it is very possible that we purchase minerals or metals from these areas.

Therefore, Harita Nickel’s supplier assessment criteria have adopted the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas to minimize the risk of conflict minerals.

  4. Sustainability Supplier Training and Due Diligence

Before engaging with suppliers or vendors, Harita Nickel conducts a thorough evaluation to ensure they meet the set qualifications and comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. This process includes risk analysis and rigorous checks in accordance with company policies.

  5. Engagement with Suppliers

Harita Nickel has set up a dedicated channel for suppliers to ensure that every update is delivered and all supplier concerns can be answered. We also conduct regular assessments and surveys of suppliers.

Responsible Sourcing Principles

All Harita Nickel suppliers must meet responsible sourcing requirements:

  1. Integrity

Comply with relevant regulations, our Anti-Competition Policy, no corruption or bribery, no gifts, confidentiality of data, and avoidance of conflicts of interest

  2. Respect for Human Rights and Compliance with Employment Laws

Comply with employment regulations regarding wages and benefits, no gender discrimination, no employment of individuals under the age of 18 except for internships and vocational training, and no forced labor or inhumane treatment.

  3. Compliance with Health, Safety and Environment Requirements

Comply with all relevant laws and specific provisions outlined in contracts, conduct risk assessments that include HSE aspects for operations and goods/services supplied, protect and maintain the environment (air, land, water, and biodiversity), and periodically evaluate the HSE performance of our independent suppliers.

  4. Qualification

Delivery, cost, quality, according to specifications, and meet national/international standards

  5. Management of Goods/Services from High-Risk Areas

The supplier must provide assurance that the goods/services do not originate from conflict-affected or high-risk areas. If so, it must comply with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains from the CAHRA Region

  6. Outsourcing

The supplier must not outsource part or all of the procurement without the formal approval of Harita Nickel.
