Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mining
2023 was pivotal in developing a basis for the futureof sustainable mining on Obi Island and paving theway for continued progress and innovation in the coming years. Our endeavors were bolstered byrigorous independent evaluations and stakeholder collaboration. These efforts have been, and will continue to be, crucial in shaping our strategy forresponsible downstream expansion and ensuring thatour core sustainability principles – as captured in ourSustainability Policy – remain at the forefront of ouroperations. Extensive research, assessment and self evaluation have clarified how to meet best-practice industry standards. We are currently focusing onlearning, advancing our capabilities, and affirming the direction for our 10 year ambition.

It is my distinct privilege to present you with the Group’s 2023 Sustainability Report which introduces the next stage in our journey to greener downstream operations and clarifies our vision with a new theme "Charting a Course: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mining. Reflecting on 2023, I see a year where the Group was able to achieve considerable operational milestones whilst also advancing our long-term strategy by embedding the principles of sustainability into every aspect ofour operations.
We have built significant internal capacity, investing inour people and introducing the resources and policies required to shape the future of sustainable mining.From an operational perspective, we have expanded ferronickel production for stainless steel value chains and
invested in the development of a new industrial park to capitalize on downstream manufacturing opportunities. We began to export nickel sulfate and to strengthen ourvertically integrated supply chain for battery materials with investments in another high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) plant to scale production and support the transition toelectric vehicles.
Our products enable the mass decarbonization oftransport and enable a reduction in global emissions, but itis equally important we continue to focus on sustainability at a local and national level. As the stewards of a nationally strategic project in an industry with increasing growth potential, we remain aware of our responsibility to contribute to the economic growth of North Maluku and Indonesia, while continuously improving our operation sustainability.
