Increased Use of Renewable Energy

Harita Nickel’s consumption of new and renewable energy saw a significant increase of 29.8% in 2024. The renewable energy solutions we have implemented include solar power generation, coal gasification, biodiesel (biosolar) use, utilization of used cooking oil, electric vehicles at our Nickel Sulfate Plant, and the adoption of conveyor belts to improve energy efficiency.

Iron Extraction from Tailing Project

Tailing is the residual material from the High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) process. In 2024, Harita Nickel, through PT Bhakti Bumi Sentosa (BBS), launched a tailing recycling project focused on iron extraction to produce pig iron.

This project offers potential benefits such as reducing tailing volumes, generating additional revenue from the sale of end products, and improving the overall profitability of HPAL operations.

Mine Land Revegetation Using Nickel Slag

In 2024, Harita Nickel explored the use of nickel slag as a soil amendment in post-mining land revegetation efforts. In trials conducted at the PT GPS mine rehabilitation site, approximately 90% of both ground cover and tree species were successfully established using a soil mix that included nickel slag.

Inauguration of the Central Nursery Facility

Harita Nickel revitalized its nursery facilities to enhance seedling production for reclamation and revegetation activities. The updated nursery now has an annual capacity of 300,000 seedlings.

607 Hectares of Watershed Areas Restored

As of 2024, Harita Nickel has managed and restored a total of 5,739 hectares of watershed areas. Of this, 607 hectares have been assessed and verified as ready for official handover to the government.

Good Governance

At Harita Nickel, good governance serves as the cornerstone of all our sustainability initiatives. We believe that transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making are essential to building a responsible and sustainable operation.

While full compliance with Indonesian laws forms the baseline of our approach, we go beyond minimum requirements by proactively adopting globally recognized best practices. These include aligning with IFRS and GRI standards, participating in IRMA assessments, and pursuing ISO certifications — all aimed at maintaining the highest operational standards.

Our commitment is further reinforced by the active role of our Board of Commissioners and Directors in integrating sustainability considerations into the company’s strategy, risk management, and key decision-making processes. Sustainability oversight is carried out through a structured governance framework supported by relevant departments, policies, training programs, and dedicated sustainability and diversity committees.

Embracing a spirit of continuous learning and improvement, we view good governance not as a compliance obligation, but as an integral part of our identity as a responsible industry player.

Ethical Business Practices

Upholding the highest ethical standards is an inseparable part of Harita Nickel’s commitment to Good Corporate Governance. Our ethical principles guide all aspects of our business — covering the Board of Commissioners, Directors, employees, subsidiaries, affiliates, and business partners.

To ensure these principles are consistently applied across the organization, PT TBP has established a set of supporting policies and mechanisms, including our Code of Ethics and Conduct, Anti-Corruption Policy, and an effective Whistleblowing System.

Code of Ethics and Conduct

Our Code of Ethics and Conduct provides clear guidance to ensure that all company representatives interact with stakeholders in an ethical and responsible manner. Aligned with our commitment to Good Corporate Governance (GCG), the Code sets out key principles that promote transparency, accountability, and integrity across all interactions.

Anti-Corruption & Anti-Bribery Measures

Harita Nickel enforces a strict Anti-Bribery, Corruption, and Money Laundering (ABCML) Policy as part of our commitment to ethical and responsible business practices. The policy includes a zero-tolerance stance on political contributions, restrictions on the use of company resources for political purposes, and mandatory compliance for suppliers.

In addition, Harita Nickel has implemented a Conflict of Interest Policy that requires full disclosure of any actual or potential conflicts of interest, whether direct or indirect.

To foster ongoing awareness and compliance, we regularly conduct training sessions for employees and relevant stakeholders. In 2024, these training sessions were attended by 23,443 participants.

We have also established a Whistleblowing System, along with an anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and anti-money laundering framework that includes preventive measures, investigation procedures, and continuous monitoring.

Reporting & Grievance Mechanisms

Harita Nickel provides safe, accessible, and responsive grievance channels for both employees and external stakeholders.

In 2024, we processed a total of 240 complaints — 147 from employees and 93 from external parties — covering issues such as labor, CSR, environmental concerns, and local business relations. All cases were addressed transparently through internal mechanisms, with no escalations to senior management.

Risk Management

PT TBP implements an integrated risk management approach, where every individual is accountable for understanding and managing risks within their respective areas. This process is embedded in decision-making and daily operations, guided by ISO 31000 standards. Regular risk assessments are reported to the Board of Directors and the Ethics & Risk Committee, with the Risk Management Function responsible for developing the framework, providing guidance, and reporting on key risks.

In 2024, our risk assessments focused on sustainability-related risks, including human rights (industrial relations, community engagement, supply chain, security, and environmental), as well as climate-related risks. Risks were identified through post-event analysis and focus group discussions (FGDs), and assessed based on likelihood and impact using both quantitative data and financial and non-financial criteria.

As part of our climate risk management, PT TBP also developed scenario analyses in line with TCFD recommendations to better understand potential future climate impacts on our business. These risks are monitored on an ongoing basis.

Responsible Supply Chain

As a company that relies significantly on external resources, ensuring a responsible supply chain is of critical importance to Harita Nickel.

To uphold this commitment, we conduct supplier due diligence in line with international standards and actively support local suppliers.

Supplier Due Diligence

Harita Nickel applies comprehensive risk management throughout our supply chain — from supplier identification to risk evaluation — based on the OECD Due Diligence Guidance. We ensure that raw materials do not originate from conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs) and are free from human rights violations and other risks identified in international standards.

Supplier due diligence is carried out systematically through clear policies and procedures. Results are reviewed regularly, and in 2024, no materials were identified as originating from or passing through CAHRAs.

Where risks are identified, Harita Nickel applies mitigation measures such as:

  • Continuing cooperation under close monitoring,

  • Temporary suspension, or

  • Termination of supplier relationships.

All suppliers are required to sign an Integrity Pact, participate in sustainability training, and undergo periodic evaluations. Feedback and grievance mechanisms are also in place to ensure transparency.

Local Suppliers

Harita Nickel prioritizes local sourcing wherever possible to strengthen relationships with surrounding communities and align our operations with sustainability goals.

In 2024, we worked with 187 local suppliers — an increase from 172 in the previous year — with total transactions amounting to IDR 9,576.7 billion.

We remain committed to supporting local suppliers through capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing their competitiveness and participation in our supply chain.
