A green and sturdy gate stands in the middle of the plantation forest in the east of Bacan Island. It reads, "Welcome to the Nature Tourism Area, Bibinoi Waterfall KPHP South Halmahera." The welcoming gate notes that this comfortable and shady area is a Production Forest Management Unit (KPHP) under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
The sound of running water rumbled about 50 meters inward, past an unattended empty building. The sound of a waterfall in the distance adds to the cool atmosphere. A river with a waterfall welcomes all who walk down the path.

"That's not the waterfall, bro, we still have to walk downhill," said Ari, a HARITA employee who led the relaxing weekend trip at the end of February (26/2).&nbsp;

The river with clear and cold water was passed and returned along the path that went uphill, then downhill until it arrived at a larger river. Mountain rocks of varying sizes and shapes adorn the river's clear green water. The sound of water falling from a height of 20 meters greeted him cheerfully.

Every visitor enjoys the waterfall and bathing beneath it. At first, the body was enveloped in a cold sensation. However, after entering and soaking, it feels more delightful and comfortable. Aside from the river being clean and free of garbage, the excitement of visiting the Bibinoi waterfall is that it is also very quiet for visitors. Enjoying the Freshness of Bibinoi Water Falls

The Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) office area appears to be crowded ahead of iftar. After work, employees congregate in a corner where various culinary delights are sold. They wanted to buy takjil dishes made by Kawasi Village residents, which the Harita Nickel Community Development (Comdev) team accepted to jointly realize the Takjil Festival program in 2022.
The Takjil Festival lasts the entire month of Ramadan. This activity involved a total of 120 residents, all of whom were female. They make grilled fish, lalampa, grilled bananas, risoles, and panadas, as well as drinks like es syrup and es campur. According to Riyadi Supriadi, manager of Comdev, this program has a direct impact on improving the people's economy. "Through this Takjil Festival program, we were able to generate an additional income of up to Rp. 17 million per group." The Takjil Festival is more than just a culinary event. During this festival, the Comdev team also teaches residents about hygienic culinary preparation and basic marketing management. According to Riyadi, the assistance is expected to increase residents' income through quality products. "The main challenge for traders is good and correct product packaging. Due to access restrictions caused by the pandemic, residents are unable to sell their products directly in the Obi Site area at this Takjil Festival. Residents in the village work with the Comdev team to create culinary products. Takjil Festival Boosts the Economy of Kawasi Women

In a whitewashed room, folding beds were neatly lined up. In the corner, there were boxes of medical equipment and oxygen cylinders. People sat outside in an orderly fashion, holding slips of paper. They waited for the officer's signal to enter the room and finish their work for the day. The Harita Nickel blood donation event in honor of National K3 Month was set on Tuesday (8/2).
The donors entered the room one by one. Even though they had to wait in line, HARITA residents continued to attend the blood donation event held at the Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) Main Office. Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP), Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS), Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP), Halmahera Jaya Ferronickel (HJF), and contractor partners from Harita arrived one after the other, according to the time set by the committee. The blood donation activity under the slogan "Share 2care" was made possible with the support of HARITA Nickel management and the Blood Transfusion Unit (UTD) of Labuha Hospital, South Halmahera. Younsel Evand Roos, Site Manager, hopes that this activity will be repeated every year during National K3 Month. HARITA Nickel has previously held a blood donation event in February 2020. At the time, more than 100 people attended the event. Even though the victim was ultimately saved, efforts to find a blood supply had to be made even harder than they should have been. Badrus is the Environmental and Reclamation Supervisor of Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP). This year marks a decade of Badrus' career at HARITA Nickel. Reclamation is more than just a job responsibility for him. Reclamation is a lifelong passion, love, and commitment to environmental sustainability. This line of work gives Badrus more purpose in life.

Badrus stated that his interest in reclamation stemmed from his love of farming. “I was very fond of plant cultivation activities when I was a teenager. My enthusiasm is channeled through my current job as a supervisor in the reclamation department, thus I work wholeheartedly with optimal results,” said Badrus who was born in Magelang 35 years ago.

Working wholeheartedly makes Badrus enjoy every task at HARITA Nickel. According to Badrus, his current profession has a major role in the sustainable industry. “Reclamation is a form of corporate responsibility towards sustainable natural resource management. The Sebelas Maret University alumnus, who majored in Agriculture, also explained that environmental management and reclamation are concerned with what happens in the future, not just today, tomorrow, or the day after. Bright faces appeared around the event field. The people of HARITA have come to unwind after a long day of work and a year filled with both joy and sorrow. After the event's opening, performers were ready to take the stage. The residents of HARITA alternately demonstrated their singing talents. It seems that the fish that has been caught is quite heavy because the fishing rod looks greatly curved. To the point that I thought the rod would break. That night, the same kind of fun didn't just happen on the boat I was in. But it also took place in other boats which were also struggling with hooks and fishing rods. They seemed to know very well what to do because several times there was the same, faint scream from the other boats nearby. For a beginner like me, just throwing a fishing line is confusing enough, thank goodness it doesn't get tangled up in another friend's fishing line. Finally, I chose to talk, stealing knowledge for a moment about fisheries.

Then from Tony Gultom, there are information flows that are too bad to be missed. But his cell phone screen blinks for a moment, indicating a new message came in, so the conversation suddenly stopped. From the bright phone screen, I saw the incoming messages in the form of photos of the fish caught by the participants to provoke questions. "Sir, what fish is that?" it was answered that it was a demersal fish, which means bottom fish. After that flows the story, which is full of information.

Demersal fish, are fish that live on the seabed. Referring to the free encyclopedia, the term is taken from the Latin 'demergere' which means to sink. Usually, demersal fish are also called reef fish, because they live among corals on the seabed. Corals only grow well in the productive zone, not more than 30 meters maximum. Because demersal fish live by eating small fish that are around the reef, the movement of demersal fish is also around the reef, although it is possible for some to dive into the sea even deeper. Demersal fish that spend most of their lives on the deeper sea floor are categorized as benthic fish and on average are predators that hide in the sea sand to outwit their prey. While benthopelagic fish are demersal fish that can swim up but remain close to the seabed. In contrast to pelagic fish (surface fish), demersal fish contain a little oil so the meat includes white meat fish, for example, red snapper.

The story was interrupted when there was a shout from behind, “Barracuda here!”&hellip;. Apparently Iwan Syahroni, Environmental & Compliance Manager managed to get the barracuda fish. Even though at that time he had just tried the jigging technique, a fishing technique using hard lure bait in the form of metal jigs. The weight of the fish he managed to get at that time was probably around 3 kg. There was a lot of noise accompanied by laughter because the documentation process was accompanied by screams of joy. From the explanation, barracuda fish caught can be categorized as demersal fish although they can also be categorized as pelagic fish when they rise to the surface. Pelagic fish are fish that live on the surface and tend to flock. Based on the size, pelagic fish are categorized into two groups, namely large pelagic and small pelagic. Large pelagics such as tuna, tuna, and skipjack. While small pelagic fish examples include mackerel and anchovies. Compared to demersal fish, pelagic fish have more oil content in their bodies which reaches about 30%. Both demersal and pelagic fish have high economies because the market is wide open with a high level of demand.

The screams of 'Sport Kawasi is Great!' suddenly interrupted the conversation, in the night that was already past middle, eastern Indonesia time. A ketinting boat carrying 3 people then passed our boat. Looking at the catch, they seem to have caught a lot of fish. By a glimpse, there were mackerel, barracuda, and bobero fish among the piles of caught fish. Apparently, the late night did not dampen the determination of the fishers to roar with the waves, drifting in the daydream of fishing hooks.

My attention is focused again on the presentation, this time about the productivity of Obi waters, especially in western Obi. It turned out that in the western area of Obi where we were fishing at that time, it did not naturally have biota and did not have nutrients. The primary productivity of seawater is closely related to the abundance of biota and nutrients in these waters. This condition is strongly influenced by the dynamics of local waters. Obi Island is located in the southern part of the South Halmahera Regency, between Seram Island and Halmahera Island. The waters of Obi Island are passed by ARLINDO (Arus Lintas Indonesia, translates: Indonesian Crossroads), which causes dynamics in its waters. These water dynamics affect the distribution of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentrations of phytoplankton. ARLINDO passes through the northern part of Obi Island through the	 northern part of Bisa Island, the western part of Obi Island, and the southern part through southern Gamumu Island. The distribution of the highest concentration of chlorophyll-a is in the northern part of Obi Island, and the distribution of warmer surface temperatures. This condition shows that the productivity of the waters in the northern part of Obi Island is higher than the other waters of Obi Island.

Tonny also explained that the fish caught that night showed that the western waters of Obi were still well preserved even though naturally the waters did not contain abundant chlorophyll-a which is produced from phytoplankton. Phytoplankton is the first food chain for pelagic fish. Some pelagic fish (small pelagic) then also become food for demersal fish. Even though naturally the water conditions are like this, there are still many pelagic fish and demersal fish found in these waters.

Amidst the flowing explanations, we were once again surprised by the cheering of several of our colleagues who were also fishing on the same boat. Bobara fish and barracuda were found again. Some of them even managed to get small, beautiful colored fish that are commonly found among living corals on the surface. The cheering made us realize that it was already 3 a.m. It's time to return to the mainland.

The next day, when the names of the winners were announced, the weighty fish caught were then spread to various WhatsApp chat groups. The three main winners of the “Fishing Tournament” activity managed to get a bobara fish weighing 10.7 kg which was won by the residents of Kawasi. Next, the 9.3 kg mackerel was caught by Harita Nickel employees and the 7.6 kg red snapper was caught by the TNI members who served in Kawasi Village.

Seeing the fish caught in the Harita Nickel Fishing Tournament and the explanation given by Tonny brings back memories of the efforts of our friends on site for the company’s environmental management. It's really not an easy effort but it can be done with sincerity, as is the spirit that is included in the commemoration of International Environment Day on June 5th, 2022. An activity initiated by the United Nations (UN) which oversees the environmental agenda through the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) included the #OnlyOneEarth tagline in the campaign to commemorate this year's environment day. The motto reminds us of all our shared obligation to take care of the earth because we only have one earth to live on. There is no other earth, only one!

Hunting Demersal Fish in the Kawasi Sea

HARITA people from Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) and Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS) planted trees together on Friday (22/4). This activity is carried out in commemoration of Earth Day, as well as in preparation for World Environment Day. This series of activities aims to increase the awareness of HARITA people for the environment through various conservation efforts. 
A total of 50 tree seedlings were successfully planted that afternoon. The seeds consist of banyan, gempol, and mahogany species which are the result of TBP–GPS nursery. TBP's Head of Mining Engineering, Sahlan Suyuti, said the activity, which was attended by about 40 people, was a manifestation of the company's commitment to environmental conservation.

“This is one of the company's activities to protect the environmental ecosystem in the operational area. We show concern for the environment, not only what is stated in the standard operating procedures, but more than that," said Sahlan at the event with the theme "Invest in Our Planet".

The commemoration of Earth Day at the Obi Site is able to inspire enthusiasm to take greater environmental care actions. On Sunday (5/6), right on World Environment Day, as many as 1,000 tree seedlings were successfully planted by all HARITA people from TBP–GPS in the Komodo Pit area. Head of Site Younsel Evand Roos and Head of Mining Engineering GPS Ngainur Rofiek also participated in planting trees in this activity.

Environmental conservation also took place in another HARITA Nickel business unit, namely Halmahera Jaya Ferronickel (HJF). HARITA people in this smelter company flocked to rivers and coasts to carry out cleaning actions. They managed to collect as much as 5 tons of garbage then sort it out and throw it into the company's final shelter.

HARITA people from HJF also planted 100 trees consisting of cypress and ketapang. The HJF management also gives awards to those who contribute to the environment. "We give awards to corporate partners who have succeeded in maintaining cleanliness in their work areas, as well as environmental ambassador awards to employees who are considered active in maintaining cleanliness at work sites," said Deputy Head of Technical Support HJF, Rifki Habibi.

Caring for marine sustainability

The commemoration of World Environment Day at Obi Site takes place not only on land but also on the sea. HARITA Nickel through Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) carried out the transplantation of artificial coral reefs in the Kawasi sea, Sunday (5/6). This activity was also attended by representatives of other business units, namely Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP), TBP–GPS, and HJF. The creation of artificial reefs continues the previous program, but with a wider area coverage.

Head of Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability HARITA Nickel, Tonny H. Gultom, said that this activity aims to preserve the ecosystem. “This activity that we are carrying out is clear proof of HARITA Nickel's commitment to maintaining the quality of ecosystems on land and in the waters of Obi Island. In accordance with the theme of this year's World Environment Day, which is 'Only One Earth', we must protect the earth by preserving its ecosystem," said Tonny.

An artificial reef is made using hollow cube concrete which is a medium for the growth and development of coral reef saplings. The number of coral reef tillers that were transplanted into the hollow cube was 60 stems. The area of the coral reef sapling structure is 2 x 2 meters and resembles a pyramid shape. Trained HARITA Nickel divers also carry out the installation process with great care.

The location for placing artificial reefs in the Pasturi area, in the waters of the Kawasi sea, also pays attention to aspects of benefits for the community. This location was chosen because it is commonly used by the fishermen of Kawasi Village to catch fish. “With this activity taking place, we hope that the coral reefs can maintain the aquatic ecosystem west of Obi Island and provide more value for fish caught by fishermen," said Tonny.

Improving HR competencies

World Environment Day is also a moment to improve the competence of HARITA people in charge of the environment. Shortly after the commemoration moment, 12 people from the HARITA Nickel environmental team were declared competent as Water Test Sampling Takers (PCUA) by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). Those representing each HARITA Nickel business unit have completed several PCUA training, which took place at the HPL office on 9–11 June.

The training and competency test refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry (PERMENLHK) No. P.3/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/2/2018 regarding the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework and PCUA Competency Certification and Law (UU) No. 13 of 2003 regarding employment. More specifically, this activity refers to Article 11 concerning job training, Article 12 concerning competency development, and Article 18 paragraph 2 concerning work competency certification, particularly in the environmental field.

Deputy Technical Support Head of HPL, Dian Kristiyanto, admitted that he was proud of the achievements of his colleagues who took part in the activity. "We are proud, the entire team is declared competent and already has a certificate from BNSP in taking water samples," he said. He also said that this score is proof that HARITA people are people who uphold professionalism in carrying out every task.

Based on the assessments of the testers, the HARITA Nickel environmental team was declared capable of carrying out a series of water test sampling tasks using tools and a choice of work procedures in accordance with standards and demonstrated performance with measurable quality and quantity. The participants passed a series of written and practical tests. Thus, it is hoped that HARITA Nickel's efforts in preserving the environment can take place more optimally with the support of HARITA people who are competent in their fields.

Celebrating Environment Day at the Obi Site

Stunning stories are continuously broadcasted from the earth of Kie Raha. There was a time when four sultanates were victorious and influenced various parts of the country, there was also a time when European scientists discovered a flora and fauna paradise in the Wallacea zone. Moloku Kie Raha, another name for North Maluku (Malut) Province, has now amazed the world with its abundant mineral resources. The image of Malut is increasingly famous for its endless treasures. 
This province in eastern Indonesia holds 90 percent of domestic nickel reserves, along with the provinces of Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi. Meanwhile, according to the 2020 Nickel Mining Booklet compiled by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), 52 percent of the world's nickel reserves are in Indonesia with a total of 72 million tons of nickel. This number makes Indonesia a major player in the nickel industry.

Abundant mineral resources have attracted the attention of investors, both local and foreign, to invest in North Maluku. Mining Business Permits (IUPs) are starting to emerge. Workers flocked to join and revive this sector. The main target of mining companies is high-grade nickel ore (saprolite) for export. The nickel ore is then processed for various industrial needs, especially those made of stainless steel.

As the nickel mining industry in Indonesia develops, the government sees an opportunity to optimize this sector through downstream. The government then banned the export of nickel ore as of January 1st, 2020 through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 11 of 2019, which at that time was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan. This regulation has now been amended by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 17 of 2022.

At the beginning of its appearance, the regulation had panicked some nickel mining business players. They think that the nickel ore export business that has been running so far is under threat. However, this does not apply to HARITA Nickel. The company, which operates on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, has been running the downstream industry since 2016. The nickel downstream target launched by the government is also seen as an opportunity by HARITA Nickel.

HARITA Nickel's downstream commitment is shown by the establishment of the Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) pyrometallurgical smelter in 2016. The factory with the Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology is capable of producing 240,000 metric tons of ferronickel per year. MSP processes saprolite mined by Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) and Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS), as mining companies under HARITA Nickel.

HARITA Nickel's transformation does not stop there. After successfully producing ferronickel with MSP&mdash;which uses high-grade nickel&mdash;the next target is to optimize low-grade nickel, which has been considered a “waste product”. Low-grade nickel (limonite) can actually be used as a high-value product. To accomplish this, HARITA Nickel established a Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) refinery in 2019.

This new plant uses High-Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) hydrometallurgical technology. HPAL technology is able to process limonite into Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP). Through the next process, MHP is further processed into nickel sulfate (NiSO4) and cobalt sulfate (CoSO4) with a production capacity of 180,000 tons per year. The product is a raw material for electric vehicle batteries. HARITA Nickel is the first party to successfully implement this HPAL technology in Indonesia.

The moment of inauguration of the HPL factory also received special attention from the central government. The inauguration which took place on Wednesday (23/6/2021) was attended by the Coordinator of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Sofyan Djalil. The ministers were also accompanied by the Governor of North Maluku KH. Abdul Gani Kasuba and South Halmahera Regent Usman Sidik.

On that occasion, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the establishment of HPL is good news for the national downstream industry. “We are very proud because we are all witnesses to the history of the establishment of HPAL in Indonesia. Indonesia can prove itself capable. This will be a future downstream development and support for the electric vehicle industry. The government will support the development of HPAL in Indonesia,” he said.

Generating the economy

The year 2020 was a time full of challenges. In addition to a ministerial regulation that prohibits the export of ore, this year the massive Covid-19 pandemic has also spread. Not a few industry players are stumbling because of these obstacles. Some were forced to cut the number of workers, some had to stop their operations completely. Meanwhile, at the Obi Site, HARITA Nickel continues to realize downstream by implementing very strict health protocols for the safety of workers.

The strong commitment of HARITA Nickel is able to make this company survive. Instead of succumbing to the pandemic, the HARITA Nickel downstream project actually accelerated and absorbed a larger workforce. This was realized even when the number of Indonesian unemployed due to Covid-19 increased by 2.56 million people (Central Statistics Agency, August 2020). At the same time, HARITA Nickel also participates in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic with the government, both central and regional, through various means.

HARITA Nickel's efforts have made a real contribution to the economic development of North Maluku. In 2020, the downstream sector plays an important role for the North Sumatran economy to continue to thrive in the midst of a national recession. The recession almost dragged all provinces except North Maluku, Central Sulawesi, and North Kalimantan. North Maluku was impressive by posting an economic growth of 6.66 percent in the third quarter of 2020. The main support is the downstream industry which jumped 106.98 percent.

North Maluku's economy continues to rise even though the Covid-19 pandemic has not completely ended. According to data from Bank Indonesia (BI) of North Maluku, in the third quarter of 2021, this province recorded the second-largest economic growth in Indonesia with a score of 11.41 percent. This figure is below Papua at 14.54 percent and above Central Sulawesi at 10.21 percent. Deputy Head of the BI Malut Representative Office, Hario Kartiko Pamungkas, said that downstream in North Maluku plays an important role in this achievement.

“Downstream products in the form of ferronickel and nickel oxide have the largest portion, with the respective amounts of 93.42 percent and 4.60 percent. This achievement cannot be separated from the development of the nickel smelter and refining industry in South Halmahera, that is HARITA Group which produces ferronickel and Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) as raw materials for electric vehicle batteries," said Hario at the BI Annual Meeting in North Sumatra, Wednesday (24/11). /2021).

North Maluku's economic growth continues. In the first quarter of 2022, there was a growth of 29.63 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021. According to data from the North Sumatra Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), this was again influenced by the downstream industry, which increased by 138.92 percent in the first quarter of 2022. Head of BPS Malut Aidil Adha said the increase in the number of processing factories that produce ferronickel and MHP has contributed greatly.

The contribution of the downstream sector was also recognized by the Secretary of the Provincial Government of North Maluku, Samsuddin A. Kadir. At the plenary meeting for the submission of the 2021 Regional Head Accountability Report (LKPJ), Monday (9/5/2022), he said this sector had made a very significant contribution. Thanks to downstream, the macro performance of North Maluku's development in 2021 can be supported to grow by 16.40 percent. This number has exceeded the target previously set, which is 9.40 percent.

The downstream sector is not only able to improve the North Sumatran economy but is also able to strengthen the national trade balance. President Joko Widodo, in an interview with Bisnis, Thursday (6/1/2022), said that downstream had made the trade balance a surplus. "Now it's been 19 months of trade balance surplus, where did that come from? From the stop of nickel exports. The figure appears to be US$20.8 billion. In the past, land exports containing nickel ore were only US$2 billion a year, meaning there was a very high jump," he said.&nbsp;

HARITA Nickel as a pioneer in the downstream industry in North Maluku continues to transform for the better through improving human resources and technology. Even though it has become the first electric vehicle battery raw material producer in Indonesia, HARITA Nickel is not easily complacent. There are still many innovations that are trying to be realized to reinforce the company's commitment to downstream, including by establishing the Halmahera Jaya Ferronickel (HJF) smelter with an increasingly large production capacity.

Head of External Relations of HARITA Nickel, Stevi Thomas, hopes that the downstream carried out by HARITA Nickel can continue to provide the widest possible benefits. “This transformation in downstream is able to optimize natural resources as well as possible and create added value. We hope that the presence of HARITA Nickel and the products it produces can continue to contribute to economic development, both nationally and regionally, as well as other contributions to stakeholders, especially in the areas where we operate,” said Stevi.

Downstream to Build North Maluku

A private yacht slid slowly into the waters of the Kawasi sea that afternoon, on March 3, 2022. Clear skies welcomed the arrival of the ship containing 20 people. While passing through villages and industrial ports, a man in a cap with a white official dress, got out of the ship. He carefully watched the coast of the Kawasi sea.
The man is none other than the Governor of North Maluku KH Abdul Gani Kasuba (AGK). AGK, which goes by the nickname Ustaz Gani, enjoyed the blue and beautiful Kawasi sea, the western part of Obi Island. Upon entering the harbor dock owned by Harita Nickel, he was greeted by <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/sustainability/climate-change/water-management" target="_blank">a clear turquoise estuary</a>. There is no turbidity or color change at all, as some of the media have recently reported.

Ustaz Gani's sudden, unplanned presence was not without purpose. His attendance, accompanied by the Head of the North Maluku Energy and Mineral Resources Service, Hasyim Daeng Barang, and the environmental investigator of the North Maluku Environment Service, Yusra Hi Noho, and his entourage, came to ensure that Obi sea conditions, especially Kawasi, remained safe and well maintained. The anxiety was immediately answered when he saw the sea remained clear and blue as far as the eye could see.

After observing the Kawasi waters, and anchoring at the company's dock, the Governor's entourage went straight to the Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) office. The group accompanied by the Head of External Relations of Harita Nickel, Stevi Thomas from Ternate, North Maluku, was immediately greeted by the Person in Charge of Engineering and Environment of HPL, Rico W. Albert. While resting after going through a tiring journey by air and sea since the morning, Rico explained the most recent conditions and developments of Harita.

Rico W. Albert to the Governor and his staff to ensure that all operations are in accordance with and comply with all applicable permits. He also ensured that the company has implemented its social responsibility program well and will continue to strive to be better.

After Rico's explanation, Governor AGK in front of Harita management and employees said that he was pleased to directly assess Harita operations and ensure the environment is safe and maintained. This is a form of local government support for investment.

“I am proud of Harita who has invested heavily in my homeland, North Maluku. However, I ask that the environment is still considered by following the existing rules. Harita operations must be able to provide benefits to the region and the community," said AGK when giving directions to Harita Management.

The governor also requested that Harita must continue to look after the environment. Currently, the global world is directing attention to Indonesian nickel, especially Harita. Therefore, Ustaz Gani wants Harita to become a beacon of North Maluku in Indonesia.

"Especially the fact that Harita operates in North Maluku, in South Halmahera Regency, which is my homeland. It is not only Harita who is proud but I am also proud,” he said.

The Governor and his entourage toured the operational area and were accompanied directly by Stevi Thomas who is also the President Commissioner of HPL. To the Governor, Stevi Thomas explained HARITA Nickel's commitment to the environment and ensured that the issue of environmental pollution by Harita was not true, as witnessed by the Governor directly.

On the sidelines of the visit, Yusra Hi Noho who is also the Head of Pollution and Environmental Damage said that out of 109 mining business permits in North Maluku, Harita is the best company in environmental management. Not only that, all helpful recommendations are always responded to positively. Hopefully, this will continue to be improved.

"In terms of the environment, the commitment from Harita Nickel is extraordinary, because of all the companies I evaluated, Harita is still very committed to environmental management," said Yusra to the media crew who accompanied the group.

After touring and reviewing the first nickel refining plant in Indonesia that produces the raw material for the electric car battery, the group again left the location in the afternoon.
