Harita Nickel is committed to addressing recent stakeholder concerns regarding land use, food systems, and agricultural areas surrounding our operational area on Obi Island.
The resettlement of Kawasi Village is a <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/sustainability/human-rights/we-and-the-community/the-new-kawasi-settlement" target="_blank">government-led initiative</a> that Harita Nickel is proud to support. We provided a large parcel of&nbsp; inland land for this development, carefully selected through a <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/files/pdf_assets/Summary%20of%20LNRA%20Harita%20Nickel.pdf" target="_blank">Landscape Nature Risk Assessment</a> to avoid impacting the only sago forest near our operations. This forest, adjacent to the new village site, is set to become a conservation area with ecological and water monitoring for biodiversity purposes.

Harita Nickel includes food systems as part of its sustainability commitments. We ensured that independent environmental and social auditors assessed the site prior to development and they <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/316562865_The_Change_of_Local_Food_Consumption_Pattern_from_Sago_to_Rice_Case_Study_of_Social_Change_in_Central_Maluku" target="_blank">agree with academics</a> who determine that rice has now replaced sago as the main food source in the region.&nbsp;

<a href="https://tbpnickel.com/files/documents/CSR%20Report%202024.pdf" target="_blank">Other food security initiatives</a> include sustainable farming programs such as the development of horticulture, fisheries and sustainable produce farms. Additionally, The One Village, One Supply Chain initiative is a community-driven program that helps villages establish local and national supply chains to support long-term economic independence.

To further ensure community wellbeing, all land negotiations uphold the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) outlined by the International Finance Corporation. We conduct community consultation, sentiment surveys, and offer a formal grievance mechanism to the community. All of these processes are currently under review by&nbsp;<a href="https://tbpnickel.com/media/news/operational/announcement-on-irma-audit-stage-2" target="_blank">independent IRMA</a> auditors.

Protecting water resources is equally central to our strategy. Harita Nickel employs a comprehensive tailings management system with groundwater monitoring, real-time <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/media/kabar-obi/k3l/kawasi-spring-preserved-residents-clean-water-is-at-hand" target="_blank">water quality checks</a>,&nbsp;and accredited third-party laboratory testing which is reported transparently to Indonesian authorities. Consistent with Good Mining Practices, results are regularly submitted to Indonesian authorities for audit. Our design includes sediment ponds, dry stack tailings, and engineered runoff controls to minimize impacts on waterways and agriculture.&nbsp;

Our Commitment to Food Security and Natural Resource Conservation on Obi Island

Jakarta, April 15, 2025 – PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), also known as Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company, has voluntarily submitted itself to undergo an audit process conducted by one of the world’s most rigorous independent assurance organizations, the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). The audit, which began in October last year, is entering its second phase in April 2025. This marks the first time an integrated nickel mining and processing company in Asia has undertaken the IRMA audit process.
The IRMA-approved independent auditor in Indonesia, SCS Global Services (SCS), will assess whether the company, which operates in South Halmahera, North Maluku, has respected human rights, engaged with local communities, provided a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment, minimized environmental impacts, and contributed to a positive legacy. In total, more than 400 requirements under the IRMA Standard will be evaluated throughout the audit process. The assessment results will be published in a public audit report, released both locally and on the IRMA website.
“By volunteering to have its mining operations independently audited against the world’s most rigorous global mining standard, Harita Nickel is setting an unprecedented example of operational transparency in Indonesia’s mining sector," said Aimee Boulanger, Executive Director of IRMA, in a <a href="https://responsiblemining.net/tag/harita-nickel/" target="_blank">press release</a> issued when Harita Nickel initiated the audit process.
The spirit of aligning national industry practices with global standards, as demonstrated by Harita Nickel, not only ensures long-term benefits for communities and the environment but also reflects the growing recognition of Indonesia’s nickel industry as being in line with the highest global compliance standards. This alignment is particularly important given nickel’s critical role in supporting the energy transition and the increasing global demand for responsibly sourced nickel.
Harita Nickel’s Director of Health, Safety and Environment, Tonny Gultom, stated, “This transparency demonstrates the Company’s commitment to implementing responsible and sustainable mining practices while also supporting the Indonesian government’s vision for a mining sector that is both environmentally and socially responsible and transparent.”
Since its inception, Harita Nickel has demonstrated a strong spirit of continuous improvement; using assurances and due diligence reports as some of the tools to identify areas for improvement where the company will take a phased approach towards improvement. Harita Nickel has also consistently aligned itself with globally recognized sustainability standards to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen stakeholder trust.
Before commencing its mining operations, Harita Nickel obtained a range of academic studies that serve as the foundation for its responsible operational practices. Among these are hydrological assessments and land-use planning studies, which form the basis for a comprehensive water management strategy&mdash;covering the responsible use, recycling, and distribution of water across all operational areas.
As the processing and refining of nickel ore intensifies, Harita Nickel’s environmental management practices have also evolved to meet higher standards. The Dry Stack Tailings Facility (DSTF) has been implemented in former mining excavation areas, complete with a comprehensive water management system and testing procedures that significantly enhance tailings management safety and prevent water contamination risks.
Harita Nickel implements <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu1195SUCnI&t=83s" target="_blank">marine environmental management</a> to monitor and protect marine ecosystems around the company’s activities. Management includes water quality, plankton, benthos, fish and coral as well as other indicators of marine environmental health.
Further, Tonny elaborated, "We have also initiated a <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/files/pdf_assets/Summary%20of%20LNRA%20Harita%20Nickel.pdf" target="_blank">landscape-based natural risk assessment</a> in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), to better understand and mitigate hydrological and ecological risks."
Commitment to international standards such as IRMA is not the only one adopted by Harita Nickel. The company has also initiated a compliance assessment process for responsible sourcing practices through the <a href="https://hpalnickel.com/files/documents/Laporan%20Uji%20Tuntas%20Pengadaan%20yang%20Bertanggung%20Jawab%20HPAL.pdf" target="_blank">Responsible Minerals Assurance Process</a> (RMAP) from the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).
"The compliance status obtained from this audit confirms that Harita Nickel's risk management system has been implemented in accordance with applicable standards. IRMA Audit: Harita Nickel’s Affirmation of Its Commitment to Sustainability

Jakarta, 25 March 2025 -- PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel, a sustainable integrated nickel mining and processing company, has completed the construction of its second refinery, PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC), and has been fully operational with commercial production since August 2024, increasing Harita Nickel's low-grade nickel refining capacity to 120.000 tons of MHP per year. In the smelter line, after completing the construction of the second RKEF smelter in 2023, PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), the total installed capacity for ferronickel (FeNi) has reached 120,000 tons of nickel content in FeNi per year.
The company observes that the global nickel industry is still facing challenges and expected to remain tough in the coming years, due to factors such as global economic slowdown, increasing business competition, and rising operational costs resulting from changes in both domestic and international policies. In response, Harita Nickel is addressing these issues by focusing on improving operational efficiency to maintain its competitiveness.

One of the strategies for efficient operations is reflected in the commencement of construction for a factory which will produce quicklime as a supporting material in the HPAL hydrometallurgical process. This is expected to improve the efficiency of raw material support costs. Additionally, the company is also implementing tighter control over operational costs.

As a result of several efficiency efforts made throughout 2024, in the financial report for the fiscal period ending on December 31, 2024, Harita Nickel recorded a revenue of IDR 26.97 trillion, a gross profit of IDR 8.45 trillion, and a net profit attributable to the parent company's shareholders of IDR 6.38 trillion.

From the mining business line, Harita Nickel recorded a total nickel ore sales volume of 23.75 million wmt (wet metric tons) to the company’s affiliate operated in nickel processing and refining. Meanwhile, from the nickel processing and refining business line, the company achieved FeNi sales of 126.344 tons, MHP sales of 63.431 tons, and derivative MHP products, Nickel Sulfate (NiSO4) at 38.622 tons.

Recognizing the challenging conditions in the industry, Harita Nickel will focus on strengthening efficiency, completing ongoing projects, and improving internationally recognized operational standards.
One of the initiatives to enhance international operational standards undertaken by Harita Nickel is completing the audit or assessment process for the international mining standard, the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), in line with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles that being implemented by the company.
The Finance Director of Harita Nickel, Suparsin D. Liwan stated that moving forward, the company will also remain focused on efforts to maintain the company's financial health.

Completing Ongoing Projects, Harita Nickel (NCKL) Strengthens Operational Efficiency

Jakarta, 22 November 2024 -- PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company, today announced its financial results for the nine months ending 30 September 2024. The results reflect solid operational performance and steady financial growth amidst global market challenges.
Revenue for the period was recorded at IDR 20.38 trillion, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year, supported by higher production volumes in both mining and processing operations. The company achieved a gross profit of IDR 6.66 trillion, a 9% increase year-on-year, while EBITDA rose 14% to IDR 8.88 trillion. Net profit attributable to the owners of the parent company stood at IDR 4.84 trillion, marking an 8% growth compared to the previous year.
 
Production volumes showed significant improvement, with nickel ore production surpassing 16.27 million wet metric tonnes (wmt), a 12% year-on-year increase. FeNi production from the RKEF smelters reached 95,813 tons, a 39% year-on-year increase, up 39% from the same period in 2023, while HPAL facilities delivered 71,531 tons of MHP Ni, up 47% from the same period in 2023.
 
The second HPAL facility, PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC), began its first production line in April 2024, and all three production lines successfully reached full capacity by August. This achievement contributed significantly to the overall production output of the HPAL facilities and boosted nickel ore sales increase from the mining division. Additionally, the first HPAL facility started producing and exporting electrolytic cobalt in August, further diversifying the company’s product offerings.

Harita Nickel Records Stable Growth in Q3 2024

Jakarta, 31 July 2024 -- PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company, today announced its financial results for the first half of 2024, demonstrating significant growth in both financial and operational performance.
In the first half of 2024, Harita Nickel reported a revenue of IDR 12.80 trillion, marking a significant increase of 25% from IDR 10.24 trillion in the same period last year. This growth was driven by increased production output and higher sales volumes across its mining and processing operations. Harita Nickel's production capacity continued to grow, with increased capacity from its RKEF smelters and HPAL refining facilities. The company's mining operations showed a quarter-over-quarter increase in nickel ore sales, driven by the rising demand for nickel ore for smelters and refining facilities in Harita Nickel's subsidiaries.
 
The company's operational achievements include a significant increase in production output and nickel ore sales volume. Nickel ore sales volume in the first half of 2024 reached 8.37 million wmt, up 29% compared to 6.49 million wmt in the same period last year. RKEF operations saw a 69% year-over-year increase in FeNi production output, reaching 63,414 tons in the first half of 2024, exceeding production capacity. HPAL operations also showed strong performance, with a 28% increase in MHP Ni output compared to the same period last year, totaling 38,334 tons in the first half of 2024. This growth was further supported by the increased production of the refining facilities from PT HPL, which exceeded production capacity, and the second HPAL refining facility, PT ONC, which began production in the second quarter of 2024.
 
Gross profit for the second quarter of 2024 reached IDR 2.205 trillion, up 36% from IDR 1.618 trillion in the first quarter of this year. This increase was also supported by the recovery of global nickel prices in the second quarter, which positively contributed to the company's gross profit. EBITDA increased by 49% to IDR 3.168 trillion in the second quarter of 2024, up from IDR 2.129 trillion in the previous quarter. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent company in this second quarter was IDR 1.805 trillion, up 80% from IDR 1.001 trillion in the first quarter of 2024.

Harita Nickel Sales Grow 25% in the First Half of 2024

Jakarta, 27 June 2024 -- PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel, an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company, announced its solid financial performance and operational growth, along with dividend distribution. This was conveyed during the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) and Public Expose held today at Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel.
During the RUPST, the company reported revenue of Rp23.86 trillion in 2023, a 149.4% increase from the previous year. Additionally, the company recorded a net profit attributable to the owners of the parent company for the 2023 fiscal year of Rp 5.62 trillion, up 20.4% from the previous year. Based on this profit, the company declared a cash dividend of 30% or approximately Rp1.6 trillion. A reserve fund of 0.18% or Rp10 billion was established, while the remaining profit was recorded as retained earnings to support operational and business development activities.
 
In the AGMS, the shareholders also approved the repurchase of shares issued by the company in accordance with Financial Services Authority (OJK) Regulation No. 29 of 2023. The company will allocate a maximum of IDR 1,000,000,000,000 for this share repurchase plan, with the execution period within 12 (twelve) months after obtaining approval.
 
Harita Nickel’s President Director, Roy Arman Arfandy, emphasized the importance of cautious expansion in facing global challenges. "We are committed to continuing wise investments and developing production facilities that can increase the volume and added value of the products we produce. We will maintain a healthy and strong financial position to anticipate future working capital needs," said Roy.
 
During the Public Expose, Roy also presented the company's operational and financial performance, as well as various ongoing development projects. In the first quarter of 2024, mining production reached 5.88 million wet metric tons (wmt), an increase of 38% from the previous year's period. The production came from two operating mines (PT. TBP and PT. GPS), while three other mines (PT. JMP, PT. OAM, and PT. GTS) are still in the exploration stage.
 
The construction of the HPAL (ONC) facility also showed significant progress. The first production line of this second HPAL facility (ONC) has reached full production capacity by the end of May 2024. The second production line started operations in June 2024, while the third line is scheduled to start in August 2024.
 
Harita Nickel, together with its strategic partner, has also established two new companies, PT Bhakti Bumi Sentosa (BBS) and PT Cipta Kemakmuran Mitra (CKM). PT BBS aims to recycle waste materials from HPAL production into valuable commodities, while PT CKM aims to produce limestone into quicklime to reduce production costs from HPAL facilities.
 
Harita Nickel also reaffirmed the company's commitment to sustainability. In terms of governance and reporting standards, various standards and certifications have been met and are currently in process, including the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). IRMA is a comprehensive standard for responsible mining and mineral processing, supported by various stakeholders. The company has completed the self-assessment process and is currently undergoing an audit. In addition to IRMA, the company is also registered as an active facility for the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) and is currently undergoing an audit for assessment.
 
In addition to governance and reporting standards, Harita Nickel also expressed its commitment to integrating sustainability into ecosystem protection and environmental conservation and various community development and empowerment programs. These programs include health services, education, social and cultural activities, and economic initiatives.

 One of the agendas decided was the change in the composition of the company's Board of Directors, with the following composition of the Board of Commissioners and Directors approved:

The company will also establish a reserve fund of 0.18% or Rp 10 billion, while the remaining profit will be recorded as retained earnings to support operational activities and business development.
 
The company also presented a report on the realization of the use of funds from the initial public offering (IPO) amounting to approximately Rp 10 trillion, of which Rp 7.7 trillion has been realized.
 
The AGMS also decided on several other agendas, including approval of the company's Annual Report and Ratification of the Audited Consolidated Financial Statements of the Company and its Subsidiaries for the Fiscal Year ending December 31, 2023, the Supervisory Report of the Board of Commissioners for the Fiscal Year 2023, authorization for the Board of Commissioners to appoint a Registered Public Accounting Firm to audit the company's financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, determination of salaries/honoraria and other allowances for the members of the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2024, and the Report on the Realization of the Use of Proceeds from the Initial Public Offering.

PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (“TBP”) operates an integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing on Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku. Apart from having an IUP, since 2016, the Company, through its subsidiary entities, has had high-grade nickel ore (saprolite) smelters and low-grade nickel ore (limonite) processing refinery facilities since 2021 in the same operational area.
