Jakarta - Harita Nickel won the Excellence in Environment Video Content award at the Mata Lokal Awards during the Mata Lokal Fest 2024. This award was given for the company's success and commitment to environmental management and sustainable business practices through its nickel industry downstream program. Additionally, Harita Nickel is considered to have a positive impact on the local community and the national economy.
With the theme “Local Thriving in the Digital Era,” this annual event by Tribunnews aims to showcase more local stories.
 
“There are several components that the judges look at. Among them is how the brand solves problems with an engaging creative process. Next is interaction. How the brand can communicate with the locals and how the locals can communicate with the brand,” said Dian Gemiano, CMO of KG Media, who also served as one of the panel judges, in his speech.
 
The video titled “Dedikasi Untuk Lingkungan” (Dedication to the Environment) the fourth episode in Harita Nickel’s series “Ekspedisi Hilirisasi Anak Bangsa” (Expedition of the Nation’s Downstreaming), succeeded in captivating the panel of judges. It depicted sustainable and environmentally friendly mining practices, complemented by terrific collaboration with the local community to ensure that mining activities provide maximum benefits without damaging the environment.
 
This practice has been appreciated by several parties, including environmental activist from North Maluku, Usman Mansur, who believes that Harita Nickel plays a role in helping the education and economy sectors of the community around Obi Island.
 
Moreover, Marine Planktonlogy Expert, Prof. Dr. Ir. Inneke F. M. Rumengan, also stated that the ecological condition of the sea around Obi Island is quite stable and not under anthropogenic pressure, including from mining activities.
 
The Mata Lokal Award 2024 was presented directly by KG Media’s Chief of Revenue Officer, Moris Rusmanto, to Anie Rahmi, Corporate Affairs Manager of Harita Nickel.

The event, attended by Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Budi Ari Setiadi, and Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo, also serves as a moment to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and collaboration between companies, government, and the community in maintaining environmental conservation amidst industrial development.

Harita Nickel Wins Excellence in Environment Video Content Award at  Mata Lokal Fest 2024

Harita Nickel, an integrated nickel mining and processing technology company, once again held Harita Mengajar to improve access to education for children on Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku. Aligned with World Book Day, the event focused on the theme "Edugathering: Smart Reading, Smart World Viewing".
A total of 130 students from SD Negeri 217 South Halmahera and MI Al Habsyi Kawasi Village participated in the activity held at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend cinema, one of Harita Nickel's business lines that operates nickel processing and refining, on Saturday (27/4/2024). 
 
The students enthusiastically watched a movie about education entitled Sepatu Dahlan and also enjoyed listening to a fairy tale told by one of Tidore's writers, Shahryan Khamari.

Harita Nickel's Community Development Manager, Ifan Farianda, said Harita Mengajar is part of the company's Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) program focused on education.
 
He said that the company is fully committed to supporting education quality improvement in order to produce excellent local resources. He mentioned that this support is offered through various initiatives and activities, including Harita Mengajar, which currently aims to boost local children's reading interest.
 
"We encourage children to have an interest in reading from an early age, which will be their capital to continue learning and have more knowledge. It is hoped that local resources in the future can become a superior human resource, a ready-to-use workforce, so that they can be absorbed in the company and contribute to the development of their region in the future," he said.
 
Ifan further said, based on research conducted by his team on children in operational circles on Obi Island, it was found that as many as 6 out of 10 students in grade 2 were categorized as non-readers. While for the average of grades 1-6, the number reaches 50%. According to him, this figure is far below the national Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) average of 6% for the non-reader category.
 
"We're committed to supporting the government in improving education quality, focusing on enhancing literacy and encouraging reading interest, especially among children in our operational area on Obi Island," he said.
 
The company's initiative received a warm welcome from the teachers. Principal Wa Ode Musliana of MI Al Habsy in Kawasi Village expressed gratitude, stating that the event greatly supports the school's efforts to boost students' interest in reading.
 
"This is the first time for our children to watch a movie in a theater. We would like to thank the company for helping us to give students an understanding of the importance of reading and education for their future," she said.
 
Not only this activity, according to her, the company's programs have contributed a lot to efforts to improve the quality of education, especially for children in Kawasi Village. 
 
Meanwhile, one of the students, Amal Ramadan Solissa, shared his joy in watching movies in the theater and listening to fairy tales. According to him, this activity has provided new experiences and inspired him to study harder. When asked what his goal was, the 5th grade student of SD Negeri 217 South Halmahera spontaneously replied, "I want to be a pilot! So, I can take my friends on a trip to America!"

For information, Harita Mengajar has become a routine program held by Harita Nickel to support the improvement of education quality in its operational circle on Obi Island. Edugathering: Harita Nickel Boosts Obi Children's Interest in Reading Through Movies and Storytelling

Harita Nickel has been honored with the award for the Most Popular Institution/Corporation in Print and Online Media at the PR Indonesia Awards 2024. The award was presented by F. Sutedjo, Director of PR Indonesia Group, at The 9th Public Relation Indonesia Award (PRIA) 2024 event titled 'Communication that Inspires Civilization' in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday, (07/03).
The category of Most Popular Institution/Corporation in Print and Online Media was conferred based on the total coverage and sentiment of reports across 256 print media and 12,425 online media outlets during the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2023. No less than 16 jurors were involved in the evaluation process, comprising senior PR practitioners, journalists, academics, and PR experts. In this year's 9th PRIA competition, a total of 699 entries were recorded from 129 institutions and corporations nationwide.
 
Anie Rahmi, Corporate Affairs representative of Harita Nickel, expressed gratitude for receiving the award and thanked PR Indonesia magazine and the Jury Board. According to her, in line with the commitment to prioritize Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG), Harita Nickel consistently fosters open communication with stakeholders.

Harita Nickel Awarded as the Most Prevalent Corporate Entity in Print and Online Media Indonesian PR Version

President Director of <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/" target="_blank">PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk</a> (NCKL) or Harita Nickel, <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/about-us/management-profile" target="_blank">Roy Arman Arfandy</a>, accepted two awards at the Indonesia Best 50 CEO Awards & Indonesia Most Popular CEO 2024 event held by The Iconomics. At once, Roy received two awards, namely "Indonesia Popular CEO Awards" and "Special Mention: Top CEO in Cultural and Environmental Preservation Initiatives, Supporting Mineral Industry Downstreaming Through Integrated Technology". Head of Corporate Communications Haviez Gautama accepted the awards on behalf of Roy at the event held in March.

Setelah sukses dengan Extra Miles Day hingga batch ketiga tahun lalu, Harita Nickel kembali mengajak para karyawan mudanya untuk berdiskusi secara langsung dengan jajaran direksi perusahaan. Forum bertajuk Leader’s Chat digelar pada Sabtu, 3 Februari 2024, di Kafe Kahyangan, yang terletak area operasional salah satu unit bisnis Harita Nickel, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP).&nbsp;
Forum ini bertujuan menjadi sarana tukar pikiran lintas generasi, yang dipimpin oleh Younsel Evand Roos, selaku Direktur Operasional dan Tonny H. Gultom, Direktur Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) di perusahaan. Keduanya memiliki rekam jejak lebih dari dua dekade di industri pertambangan, yang secara intens membagikan pengalaman tentang pentingnya membentuk karakter sebagai pemimpin yang mampu bekerja sama, sembari membagikan aspek teknis terkait industri ini.&nbsp;

Tonny Gultom menjelaskan bahwa Leader's Chat bukan sekadar forum diskusi, melainkan cikal bakal untuk menciptakan pemimpin-pemimpin masa depan yang terinspirasi dan terhubung dengan nilai perusahaan. “Inisiatif ini tidak hanya menciptakan tempat bertukar pikiran, tetapi bukti komitmen Harita Nickel dalam membangun kompetensi karyawannya yang unggul di disiplinnya masing-masing. Leader’s Chat: Forum Tukar Pikiran Lintas Generasi di Harita Nickel

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) of Harita Nickel performed the Cakalele dance at Gala Dinner of the 1st Sumatra Fire and Rescue Challenge (SFRC) held at Hotel Saka PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, on Sunday (18/2/2023) evening. 
As the one and only representative from East Indonesia, Harita Nickel deployed 8 trained ERT personnel from each of its business units to handle emergency response. The audience was mesmerized by the captivating Cakalele dance performance, set to music and met with enthusiastic cheers.

Harita Nickel's ERT Manager, Nofrelland, stated that their participation in the competition organized by the Emergency Response Association in the Mining and Energy Sector (Pertapindo) aimed not only to win but also to introduce the company that consistently values local wisdom and upholds Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) standards in all operational activities.

"Cakalele is a war dance to welcome a victory. We came from North Maluku to Sumatra to win. However, our main victory is our effort to maintain Occupational Health and Safety at work on Obi Island, which also needs to be witnessed by a wider audience, one of them through participation in this competition," he expressed enthusiastically.

Additionally, Nofrel mentioned that Harita Nickel's ERT is prepared to compete against 14 other Sumatra teams across four categories: firefighting rescue, water rescue, traffic accident response, and agility tests for firefighting teams. They will also undergo a written competency test.

Nofrel emphasized that SFRC is an opportunity to test the team's competence, as well as to update their knowledge and emergency response skills among ERT practitioners.

Harita Nickel aims to improve its employees' Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) skills through participation. The company's dedication to OHS is evident in its achievement of ISO 45001:2018 certification in December 2023. The phenomenon of e-sports fever has also taken place at the Obi Site, Harita Nickel. One of the most popular games among Harita employees is Mobile Legends. This online game is played via cell phones by 10 players divided into 2 teams. The two teams, each consisting of 5 members, compete in strategy and agility. Good coordination, effective communication, and precise decision-making are necessary to win. These are also essential in our work, where good teamwork is the key to success.

As a manifestation of the company's concern for employees' leisure activities, the company held a Mobile Legend competition during the Independence Day celebration in July-August 2023. This activity received an enthusiastic response from employees. E-sports enthusiasts flocked to enliven the competition held at each business unit.

It didn't stop there. The competition continued between business units, packaged as the Harita Nickel 2023 Olympics. The champions from each business unit, including the e-sports event, then competed in the Olympics to become the best team across the entire Obi site.

Holding an e-sports competition: Harita Nickel provides recreational space for employees

The celebration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the Obi Site was successfully held in August 2023. Each business unit celebrated by organizing various competitions. Unlike previous years, this year's independence commemoration festivities included a business unit competition packaged into an Olympic event, dubbed the Harita Nickel Olympics. The purpose of this competition is to not only determine a winner but to also foster a sense of community.
The Harita Team is invited to reflect on notable events from the Indonesian Independence Day festivities, including unique, futuristic, humorous, and sacred moments. Additionally, it is important to consider what lessons can be learned from these experiences.&nbsp;

Take a look and explore the preservation of a traditional sport, Sepak Takraw, which is uncommon in major cities. Watching the sport played at the Obi Site, as seen at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), provides a traditional sports experience. The game involves players playing with a rattan ball using their head, chest, and feet. Additionally, spectators can enjoy acrobatic movements like the somersault smash.&nbsp;

Building e-Sport-style Teamwork

One of the e-sports being contested is Mobile Legends. This online game is played on mobile by 10 players divided into 2 teams. &nbsp; The two teams, each consisting of 5 personnel, compete in strategy and agility. To win the games, good coordination, effective communication, and sound decision-making are required. These are also what we need at work, where good teamwork is the key to success.

Carnival as a Unity Event:

Celebrating Independence Day, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) hosted entertaining competitions packaged in the Independence Carnival to make the festivities more. The Harita company held a variety of departmental competitions including costume contests, chants, tug-of-war, sack races, balloon dances, and cracker-eating contests. The objective was for all team members to return to work with a renewed perspective and improved cohesion.

The CEO of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk, Roy A. Arfandy, said that the company's outstanding achievements would not have been possible without the support of its employees. Ngibi art performance is once again held in Soligi Village, one of the villages within the operational circle of Harita Nickel in Obi Island. This annual event serves as a platform to preserve traditions and at the same time knit togetherness among residents. 
As in previous years, this year's Ngibi art performance takes place during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, precisely on Friday night (June 30, 2023), a day after the predominantly Muslim community of Soligi Village commemorates the Feast of Sacrifice.

This year's event can be considered more festive. This is because, in addition to showcasing the Ngibi dance, there were also competitions held for the Cungka dance and Pencak Silat martial arts. The participants were local children, from those in elementary school to high school.

Not only the competition participants, but also the residents who wanted to showcase their skills in dance and martial arts were allowed to perform in the center of the arena, which was surrounded by hundreds of people of various ages.

John Sri Cay Simbolon, the Community Relations Superintendent of Harita Nickel, stated that the company's support for the Ngibi art exhibition in Soligi Village is part of the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM) in the social-cultural aspect.

He said that art as an expression of culture and community wisdom needs to be preserved. Through the Ngibi art performance, he hopes to be a reminder for the younger generation to preserve the traditions that have been inherited by their ancestors.
"When Soligi's children leave their village to pursue their dreams, whether continuing their education or working in a company, wherever they are, they must uphold the traditional values that have been inherited by their ancestors," John explained.
Furthermore, he said that Soligi Village children are the future hope for development in their region in the future. In addition to introducing tradition, Harita Nickel also supports access to quality education for children on Obi Island. &nbsp;
"This Ngibi art performance is also one of our means to stay in touch with residents in a family atmosphere," he said. 

<h2>The Origin of Ngibi Traditional&nbsp;Dance

Ngibi is not just mere entertainment; it holds a profound meaning for the people of Soligi Village.

Hardin, the Vice Chairman of the Village Consultative Body (BPD) of Soligi Village, explained the origins of Ngibi, which has been a long-standing tradition in their community. According to him, the Ngibi dance is a tradition of the Buton people in Southeast Sulawesi. The majority of the ancestors of the Soligi residents come from Buton. Besides Soligi, the Buton tribe also inhabits other villages on Obi Island.

In addition to the Ngibi dance, the performance that night also featured the Cungka dance accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as large and small gongs, as well as drums. According to the traditional literature of the Buton people, the Cungka dance, performed by female dancers, symbolizes the journey of human life from the womb.

The Cungka dance is then followed by the Ngibi dance, performed in pairs, as an expression of joy for the journey of human life from water to the infusion of the soul into a lump of flesh. In the Ngibi dance, male dancers are not allowed to touch the female dancers as a form of respect for the significant role that women play in life.
 
Originally, the Ngibi dance was performed after bountiful harvests as an expression of gratitude. However, over time, this art form has also been showcased in various other events, such as wedding ceremonies and community gatherings.

To preserve this tradition, in recent years, Harita Nickel and the local village administration have organized Ngibi art exhibitions involving the entire community of Soligi Village. For the past two years, the event has been held after Eid al-Adha, while the previous year it was held after Eid al-Fitr.

"We are very grateful to Harita for supporting the people of Soligi in preserving their ancestral traditions," explained Hardin, a sentiment that was also affirmed by Wahyudin Hamami, the Secretary of Soligi Village, who was present at the evening performance.

Ngibi Art Performance: Preserving Tradition, Knitting Togetherness among Soligi Villagers

North Maluku is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has abundant natural resources. Spices from this province became one of the treasures hunted by colonizers in the past, especially for cloves and nutmeg. The Portuguese even occupied North Maluku Province to monopolize the spice trade.
Apart from its rich natural resources, the province nicknamed Moloku Kie Raha is also known for its culture. Soya-Soya dance is one of North Maluku's traditional cultures that is quite popular among local people and tourists.
Soya-Soya dance is a war-dance that is part of the traditional cultural heritage of North Maluku. This dance is generally performed by male dancers who wear costumes similar to ancient sultanate soldiers. The number of dancing personnel is 3 or more people with an odd count. 
This dance is very popular in Ternate, North Maluku and is often an important part of various events including welcoming VIP guests, traditional ceremonies, art performances and cultural festivals.
<h2>Origin of Soya-Soya Dance</h2>
Based on historical records, Soya-Soya Dance was originally used to raise the morale of Ternate Sultanate soldiers when storming Fort Nostra Senora Del Rosario (Kastela Fort) in Ternate which was occupied by the Portuguese on February 25, 1570.
The invasion was led by Sultan Baabullah with an aim to retrieve his father's mortal remains, Sultan Khairun, who was killed by Portuguese soldiers. In its later days, the raid turned into a revival of Kayoa people's struggle against Portuguese invaders at the end of 16th century.
As a tribute to this heroic event, Ternate Sultanate artists then developed Soya-soya Dance as one of the dances that reflects a spirit of courage and past glory that must be passed on to future generations.
If traced from its history, Soya-soya Dance is not only part of Ternate Sultanate culture but also a reflection of Kayoa people's struggle history, in South Halmahera Regency. The Ternate Sultanate warriors who initially invaded the Portuguese to retrieve the remains of Sultan Khairun, evolved into a resistance to repel the invaders. 
Soya-Soya dance is also part of North Maluku culture in general. Not only in Ternate City or South Halmahera Regency, even children in villages in North Maluku have been taught Soya-Soya dance since they were young. Now, the dance is even taught back in elementary school.
<h2>Meaning of Soya-Soya Dance</h2>
The word Soya-Soya means "unyielding". Soya-Soya Dance is a traditional dance with distinctive movements and depicts attacking, evading, and defending movements as in war. In each movement, dancers portray an unyielding spirit and determination to defend their territory and culture.
In general, this dance is performed in groups with a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of unlimited as long as it is still an odd number. This number indicates that the odd number of troops will turn into an even number when added by a commander or troop leader.
Soya-Soya dancers usually wear white clothes with a colorful skirt-like connection cloth and a yellow headband as a symbol of a warrior. Accessories include a shield (salawaku) and a bamboo sword decorated with red, yellow and green palm leaves (ngana-ngana). It is accompanied by music from tifa (drum), saragai (gong), and tawa-tawa.
Soya-soya dance was originally performed as a way to honor the heroes' struggle to repel invaders who had long controlled their territory. However, at present, this dance also has an important meaning as an expression of community appreciation for the warriors who have worked hard to defend their homeland.
In addition, Soya-soya Dance is also a means to introduce local history and culture to the younger generation and the wider community. Through this dance, we are able to convey and appreciate the values of courage, unity, and unyielding spirit contained in local history and culture.
