The integrated nickel processing technology company, Harita Nickel accepted the Indonesia Top Digital PR Award 2024 from Infobrand.id and TRAS N CO on Monday, 26 February 2024, in Jakarta. This award recognized Harita Nickel's efforts in utilizing digital PR to create a positive perception and image of the company.&nbsp;
"The Indonesia Top Digital PR Award is dedicated specifically to companies and brands that are adept in utilizing digital PR to communicate and engage with the public, creating positive perceptions of products and companies," said Infobrand CEO Susilowati Ningsih through her written statement.
The assessment was conducted from October to December 2023 on more than 900 listed companies and 500 non-listed companies from various industries in Indonesia. The three evaluation parameters were digital media aspect, digital sentiment aspect, and digital awareness aspect.
From these three aspects, Harita Nickel successfully achieved a score of 81.39%.
Susilowati explained that digital public relations play a significant role in the modern, digital era. Digital public relations utilize various digital platforms such as social media, websites and digital media to reach a wider public more effectively and efficiently.
Harita Nickel’s Digital and Social Media Manager, Yoan Jeaniti, expressed her gratitude for this recognition. According to her, this award served as a motivation for Harita Nickel to maximize the use of digital media to communicate with the audience.

"Thank you for this award. It serves as a motivation for Harita Nickel to continually evolve in using digital technology, such as websites and social media, for communication," said Yoan in a written statement on Monday, February 26th, 2024.&nbsp;

Furthermore, Yoan emphasized that Harita Nickel was committed to continuing to improve its performance in maintaining the company's reputation and image, especially in the digital age.

Harita Nickel Received Indonesia Top Digital PR Award 2024

It has been suggested that batteries made from lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) could erode the prospects of nickel, a commodity that is expected to become Indonesia's mainstay in the future. Cheaper prices, greater heat resistance, and non-flammability are the key factors. But what do nickel industry players think?
Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (Harita Nickel), Tonny H. Gultom is confident that nickel, manganese, and cobalt (NMC)-based batteries will remain a common feature of electric vehicles in the future. The reason for this being that nickel-based batteries can store more electrical energy and last longer. Moreover, nickel-based batteries are particularly resistant to fluctuations in climate.
 
"Nickel-based batteries are generally well-suited to use in electric cars, especially for users who need to drive long distances and in areas prone to significant changes in climate and temperature," says Tonny.
 
Tonny also explains that, while LFP-based batteries are already being used in various types of vehicles, this technology remains in its infancy. As the need arises for larger capacity and longer life battery technology, nickel batteries will be able to fulfil these requirements.
 
Nickel-based batteries also have a lower carbon footprint because they can be recycled. That makes this battery better aligned with sustainable development goals (SDGs). With that in mind, it stands to reason that the European Union is currently drafting regulations that will stipulate the use of recycled batteries as standard in electric vehicles.
 
“It is hoped that the use of nickel-based batteries can answer this challenge, because they can be recycled and used again in accordance with the principles of a circular economy,” stressed Tonny.
 
NCKL Optimism
 
The company with the issuer code NCKL remains optimistic about the future prospects of nickel. As Tonny explains, future demand for nickel will be supported by the need for stainless steel and electric vehicle batteries.
 
Tonny continues by adding that Ferronickel, which is a derivative product of high-grade nickel ore (saprolite), is still in demand among various sectors, including automotive, health, and household appliances. “Meanwhile, opportunities for low-grade nickel ore derivative products (limonite) in the form of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP), nickel sulfate, and cobalt sulfate as products for electric vehicle batteries are many and varied in the energy transition era,” said Tonny.
 
Tonny remains cognizant that challenging macroeconomic conditions and Indonesia's nickel productivity are affecting the world nickel market. Nevertheless, a new equilibrium will be found in future between demand, supply, and world nickel prices.
 
Tonny is optimistic that future improvements to global economic conditions will help boost demand for nickel derivative products and improve the prospects of the nickel industry as a whole. Consequently, current world nickel market conditions do not affect the company's production targets or investment plans.
 
“At this moment in time, we continue operating according to capacity and targets,” he concluded.

Will LFP Undermine the Prospects of Nickel-Based Batteries?

Forum bertajuk Leader’s Chat digelar pada Sabtu, 3 Februari 2024, di Kafe Kahyangan, yang terletak area operasional salah satu unit bisnis Harita Nickel, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP).&nbsp;
Forum ini bertujuan menjadi sarana tukar pikiran lintas generasi, yang dipimpin oleh Younsel Evand Roos, selaku Direktur Operasional dan Tonny H. Gultom, Direktur Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) di perusahaan. Keduanya memiliki rekam jejak lebih dari dua dekade di industri pertambangan, yang secara intens membagikan pengalaman tentang pentingnya membentuk karakter sebagai pemimpin yang mampu bekerja sama, sembari membagikan aspek teknis terkait industri ini.&nbsp;

Bukan sekedar monolog di dalam forum ini. Interaksi yang dibangun selama diskusi menjadikan para karyawan muda di Harita Nickel terbentuk keberaniannya dalam mengutarakan isi pikiran di hadapan dua orang petinggi perusahaan, yang juga merespon dengan bijak.&nbsp;

“Forum Leader’s Chat bagi saya adalah sebuah masterclass. Saya belajar langsung dari Pak Younsel tentang alur produksi kita dari hulu tambang, hingga hilir, yang betul-betul memerlukan kerjasama antar unit bisnis,” ucap Merlin Pentury, Staff Laboratorium di Departemen Produksi Harita Nickel.&nbsp;

Perempuan asal Sulawesi Utara ini mengatakan forum ini membekalinya dengan pengalaman nyata dari dua figur penting di operasional perusahaan. “Khususnya tentang kinerja yang fokus dan konsisten, serta kemauan untuk belajar. Dua hal ini mampu membentuk karakter kami, para calon pemimpin di Harita Nickel,” tambahnya.&nbsp;

Sementara itu Dwi Retno Apriani Putri, peserta dari Departemen HSE menjelaskan bahwa forum ini bukan hanya sekadar pertemuan antara karyawan dan pimpinan direksi, melainkan sebuah panggung motivasi yang memberikan dorongan kuat bagi setiap peserta.

Ia mencatat kesan mendalam dari pengalaman dan inspiratif yang dibagikan Bapak Tonny “Saya tergerak oleh kata-kata Pak Tonny. Terutama, saat beliau berbagi tentang pengalaman pribadinya yang pernah gagal, namun bangkit setelahnya. Baginya, kegagalan adalah bagian dari proses, dan kita tidak boleh terpuruk di jurang tersebut,” ujar Dwi.

Acara yang mengusung konsep makan malam bersama direksi perusahaan itu diikuti oleh 25 peserta dari seluruh bisnis unit milik Harita Nickel yang pernah mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan Extra Miles Day pada tahun sebelumnya.

Tonny Gultom menjelaskan bahwa Leader's Chat bukan sekadar forum diskusi, melainkan cikal bakal untuk menciptakan pemimpin-pemimpin masa depan yang terinspirasi dan terhubung dengan nilai perusahaan. “Inisiatif ini tidak hanya menciptakan tempat bertukar pikiran, tetapi bukti komitmen Harita Nickel dalam membangun kompetensi karyawannya yang unggul di disiplinnya masing-masing. Leader’s Chat: Forum Tukar Pikiran Lintas Generasi di Harita Nickel

HALMAHERA SELATAN, 15 Februari 2024 - Puncak perhelatan pesta demokrasi pada Pemilihan Umum (Pemilu) 2024 telah terlaksana secara serentak di seluruh tanah air pada Rabu, 14 Februari 2024. Tak terkecuali di Tempat Pemungutan Suara (TPS) lokasi khusus pada area kerja perusahaan pertambangan dan hilirisasi nikel terintegrasi yang berkelanjutan, Harita Nickel, di Pulau Obi, Halmahera Selatan, Maluku Utara.&nbsp;
Ribuan karyawan berbondong-bondong mendatangi lokasi TPS, tempat nama mereka tercatat sebagai Daftar Pemilih Tetap (DPT) yang telah ditetapkan oleh Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) Kabupaten Halmahera Selatan.&nbsp;

Ditemui di lokasi TPS PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel, Elbyani Lebang, karyawan pada Departemen Power Plant, mengatakan pertama kali mengikuti Pemilu di luar domisilinya. Dara cantik asal Tana Toraja ini mengaku senang karena bisa menyalurkan hak pilihnya di lokasi kerja.&nbsp;

“Terima kasih perusahaan sudah memfasilitasi karyawan bisa menggunakan hak pilih kami. Bagaimanapun, Pemilu ini sangat penting untuk menentukan masa depan Indonesia lima tahun ke depan,” ungkapnya, diamini Elridhani, rekan kerjanya yang berasal dari Makassar.

Geliat menyukseskan hajatan nasional itu juga tampak dari antusiasme karyawan yang terlibat sebagai penyelenggara Pemilu di 44 TPS yang tersebar di empat unit bisnis. Dengan rincian, sebanyak 308 karyawan bertugas sebagai Komite Penyelenggara Pemungutan Suara (KPPS) dan 44 orang sebagai Pengawas TPS.&nbsp;

Salah satunya, Imanuel Gelio Seimahuira, karyawan pada departemen Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) di PT Halmahera Persada Lygend. Staf pada laboratorium klinik perusahaan ini mengaku senang bisa berkontribusi menyukseskan pesta demokrasi dengan menjadi bagian dari penyelenggara Pemilu di tempat kerjanya.

“Saya tertarik menjadi anggota KPPS karena sebelumnya pernah terlibat di kampung halaman,” ungkap pria asal Kabupaten Buru itu.

Senada diungkapkan Alicia Ivanna Mailoor, karyawan PT HPL yang juga menjadi petugas KPPS. Perempuan asal Manado itu segera mendaftarkan dirinya saat mengetahui adanya peluang menjadi anggota KPPS.

Seperti Immanuel yang pernah menjadi anggota KPPS di kampung halamannya, Alicia mengaku tertantang menjadi penyelenggara Pemilu di area kerjanya. Bagaimanapun, imbuhnya, tugas dan tanggung jawab KPPS itu tidak ringan. Dalam hal ini, mengawal hak pilih para karyawan yang jumlahnya berdasarkan data Daftar Pemilih Tetap (DPT) KPUD Halsel mencapai lebih dari sepuluh ribu pemilih.

Gayung bersambut, antusiasme Insan Harita menyukseskan Pemilu 2024 mendapatkan apreasiasi dari KPU dan Bawaslu Kabupaten Halmahera Selatan.&nbsp;

Anggota yang juga menjabat sebagai Ketua Divisi Sosialisasi, Pendidikan Pemilih dan Partisipasi Masyarakat pada KPUD Halmahera Selatan, Yaret Colling, mengapresiasi kontribusi Harita Nickel yang telah turut menyukseskan penyelenggaraan Pemilu di area operasionalnya.&nbsp;

Yaret mengungkapkan, berdasarkan hasil pantauannya bersama jajaran Bawaslu, proses pemungutan suara di 44 TPS khusus Harita Nickel berlangsung kondusif. Karyawan yang telah terdaftar sebagai pemilih bisa menyalurkan hak pilihnya secara tertib. Demikian juga karyawan yang terlibat sebagai penyelenggara pemilu, mereka telah melaksanakan tugasnya sesuai arahan dari KPU dan Bawaslu.

“Semua ini bisa terlaksana, tentu berkat support dari perusahaan. Oleh karena itu, kami juga ingin menyampaikan apresiasi setinggi-tingginya kepada manajemen Harita Nickel,” ungkapnya.

Lebih lanjut dia berharap, situasi yang kondusif bisa terjaga hingga proses pemilu selesai. Apapun hasilnya dan siapapun yang keluar sebagai pemenang, dia berharap seluruh karyawan bisa menerimanya dengan lapang dada.&nbsp;

Berkarya untuk Demokrasi:  Kisah Insan Harita Wujudkan Pemilu Damai di Pulau Obi

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) of Harita Nickel performed the Cakalele dance at Gala Dinner of the 1st Sumatra Fire and Rescue Challenge (SFRC) held at Hotel Saka PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, on Sunday (18/2/2023) evening. 
As the one and only representative from East Indonesia, Harita Nickel deployed 8 trained ERT personnel from each of its business units to handle emergency response. The audience was mesmerized by the captivating Cakalele dance performance, set to music and met with enthusiastic cheers.

Harita Nickel's ERT Manager, Nofrelland, stated that their participation in the competition organized by the Emergency Response Association in the Mining and Energy Sector (Pertapindo) aimed not only to win but also to introduce the company that consistently values local wisdom and upholds Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) standards in all operational activities.

"Cakalele is a war dance to welcome a victory. We came from North Maluku to Sumatra to win. However, our main victory is our effort to maintain Occupational Health and Safety at work on Obi Island, which also needs to be witnessed by a wider audience, one of them through participation in this competition," he expressed enthusiastically.

Additionally, Nofrel mentioned that Harita Nickel's ERT is prepared to compete against 14 other Sumatra teams across four categories: firefighting rescue, water rescue, traffic accident response, and agility tests for firefighting teams. They will also undergo a written competency test.

Nofrel emphasized that SFRC is an opportunity to test the team's competence, as well as to update their knowledge and emergency response skills among ERT practitioners.

Harita Nickel aims to improve its employees' Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) skills through participation. The company's dedication to OHS is evident in its achievement of ISO 45001:2018 certification in December 2023. This certification underscores Harita Nickel's proactive efforts to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

 Thrilling Atmosphere as Cakalele Dance Resonates in the Competition Arena of Harita Nickel's Emergency Response Team in Sumatra

Employees are crucial assets for a company. Recognizing this, PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), one of Harita Nickel’s business units operating in Obi Island, constantly improves its services to its employees. One of the initiatives is the monthly celebration of employees' birthdays.
An Gui Ling, known as Aaron, General Affairs Supervisor and representative of the management initiating this activity, stated that the birthday celebration would become a regular monthly event.

“We hope that this event can serve as a platform for foreign and Indonesian employees to become closer and more familiar, just like a family,” he expressed.
The employees birthday celebration for January and February 2024 has occurred twice, with dates differing: January 20th and February 17th. All employees born in these months are invited to join the celebration.

Fajri Muliawan from the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, appreciated the company's attention to this occasion. He, along with colleagues and fellow January-born employees, enjoyed celebrating together.

“It's an interesting experience. Usually, birthdays are celebrated individually with close friends, but here we can celebrate together with other employees who were born in the same month,” said Fajri, who was born on January 28.

Building Stronger Connections: HPAL's Monthly Birthday Celebrations  Forge Employee Bonds

The Chinese New Year celebration at Harita Nickel is a vibrant and meaningful cultural event, bringing together traditions, culinary delights, and traditional arts to mark the start of the year. On February 10, 2024, Harita Nickel employees rejoiced in this festive occasion, embracing the richness of Chinese culture. 
The Year of the Wooden Dragon celebration fostered unity and cultural harmony. Chinese New Year festivities were enjoyed throughout all business units, featuring collaborative activities with overseas Chinese workers. Vibrant red lanterns with gold accents embellished offices and canteens, enhancing the festive mood.

At PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), the Chinese New Year celebration took place at the Activity Center building. The event saw the participation of expats, translators, as well as representatives from management.

The events included Tuan Nian Fan, a communal meal symbolizing the familial bond among employees. The dragon dance performance thought to bring luck and prosperity, was uniquely performed by skilled local employees. Besides the Activity Center, the Dragon Dance was also showcased in various work areas of HPL that night.

The excitement of the event culminated in fireworks that lit up the sky of Obi Island. In this case, fireworks are not only entertainment, but also a symbol of glory and new hope for the New Year.

Meanwhile, Chinese New Year celebrations were also held in other Harita Nickel business lines, such as PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) and PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), with nuances not much different from the celebrations at HPL.

The cultural diversity within the Harita community enriches Chinese New Year celebrations, highlighting the value of fostering inclusivity and harmony in the workplace. Harita Nickel recognizes that cultural differences, evident in the participation of both local and foreign workers, are not barriers but rather strengths that contribute to the company's progress.

Chinese New Year Celebration at Obi Site: Harmony in Cultural Diversity

The time showed at 19.40 WIT when Yoga Setiawan was preparing to get out of his room in the Living Quarter of one of the business units of Harita Nickel, PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL). Tonight, Yoga has a turn to host an Indonesian language class for foreign employees who work at Harita Nickel. The four-times-a-week routine that this Project Admin Staff has wholeheartedly embraced over the last two years.
“I am inspired by the story of Jose Mourinho, who started his career in Barcelona as a translator for Sir Bobby Robson, the Sporting Lisbon coach in the 90s. Now, he can be a top coach who has collected many prestigious trophies in Europe,” adds Yoga. 
 
“Hello Mister. My name is Jose Mourinho, and the President has hired me as your interpreter. I hope I can do a good job for you, Mister.”
 
Those words set Bobby Robson and Jose Mourinho together and opened the door to Mourinho's success.
 
The function of a translator cannot be underestimated. Such is the case with Yoga. Every day, this 25-year-old Pontianak native is responsible for bridging communication between Indonesian and foreign employees to achieve collaboration in creating effective and efficient operational activities. 
 
A good translator must understand the native dialect that foreign employees often use. No doubt, Yoga has to think hard to translate every instruction so that it is understood precisely and clearly by his colleagues. The dynamic work rhythm also challenges Yoga to continue developing his skills, becoming a reliable translator, and supporting the company's performance. 
 
“Here, I am required to develop my skills and knowledge every day. Imagine, I, who initially did not understand technical terms in the world of engineering or metallurgy, had to build bridges of communication between nations so that the company can achieve optimum performance,” explains Yoga.
 
He adds that the lessons learned during school or language courses are limited to everyday conversation. “When I was assigned to Harita Nickel, I had to quickly get on the same frequency, which aligns with the mindset of colleagues in the Production Department who are very technical and data-oriented. I take great care that my translations are precise and understandable to my coworkers,” he concluded.
 
Marini, Project Admin Staff from the Production Department, who has a 2-year career at Harita Nickel, conveyed the same. This Kalimantan woman confirmed that conversations in different regional dialects make the task of translators very challenging. "Giving up is not an option for me. The point is, I must always improve my capacity continuously," she said.
 
Furthermore, building communication bridges is more than just translating words into another language. Hence, Marini honed three skills in her role as a translator: adaptive linguistic skills, understanding of technical terms, and, last but not least, interpersonal skills. “The dynamic work situation in the operational area requires me to manage my soft skills in building relationships with coworkers. This skill is important because even if we have good intentions but mistakenly deliver them, it can be misinterpreted by our coworkers. This skill is also included in one of the company's core values, which is respect for every individual,” she added.
 
The spirit of respect for each individual is what Marini brings to the responsibilities entrusted to her. Thus, interacting with politeness, tolerance, and empathy towards fellow employees become Marini's guidelines. 
 
For Marini, understanding a language leads to understanding a nation's culture. “Again, interpersonal skills play an important role so that we can appreciate cultural difference so that the communication bridge we build is stronger,” she added. 
 
The spirit of building bridges of communication and collaboration between nations, as well as One Harita, is also realized by Harita Nickel by opening opportunities for employees to learn languages. It is not only for Indonesian employees who are interested in learning foreign languages but also for foreign employees who want to learn Bahasa Indonesia. Employees can join the classes from 20.00 to 21.00 WIT at the Activity Center of PT Halmahera Persada Lygend at the Obi Island site. The same opportunity is also provided for employees at the head office in Jakarta.
 
This program aims to build a solid collaboration, increasing company productivity. By involving translators as teaching staff, foreign employees will be equipped with a qualified vocabulary for daily conversation and supporting communication in the work area. 
 
“To colleagues who want to sharpen their skills, join the language course with us! Nothing is too difficult, as long as we are committed and willing to learn,” concludes Yoga.

Harita Nickel has been officially named ‘Best Social Innovation Mineral Mining Company’ and ‘Smelter Pioneer’ at the 2023 Energy and Mining Editor Society (E2S) Awards, held in Jakarta on Friday, January 12, 2024. 
The Best Social Innovation Mineral Mining Company award was given to Harita Nickel in recognition of the company’s <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/sustainability/human-rights/we-and-the-community" target="_blank">corporate social responsibility (CSR)</a> program, known as the ‘Strengthening Village Business Actors’ Independence Movement’, or Gerakan Kemandirian dan Penguatan Pelaku Usaha Desa (GEMAR PAPEDA). Working through this program, Harita Nickel recruits local suppliers to help meet the company's food consumption needs.
Meanwhile, the Smelter Pioneer award acknowledges Harita Nickel's track record in consistently and reliably completing projects, creating added value, and engendering positive knock-on effects for the wider region. Together, these awards demonstrate Harita’s dual commitment to <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/corporate-governance/good-corporate-governance-framework" target="_blank">quality operations</a> and positive community impact.
“Thank you very much for the appreciation from the Energy and Mining Editor Society,” said Latif Supriadi, Harita Nickel's Head of Community Affairs, speaking shortly after the awards ceremony in Jakarta. He went on to outline the company’s vision for the near future: “We will not stop here, and will continue to innovate social programs that meet the needs and conditions of society."
Latif also emphasized Harita's ongoing commitment to support government programs that can help improve community welfare and achieve Indonesia’s targets for UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The annual E2S Awards are a form of recognition from editors and senior journalists in the national media who focus on the energy and mineral resources sectors. The long and rigorous assessment process begins with a full year monitoring news related to the company. After that, in order to narrow down the list of potential award winners, the process continues with selection based on seven criteria. Finally, the winners are decided following intensive deliberation by a panel of judges, experts, and academics.

Harita Nickel Wins 2 Awards at the 2023 E2S Award

Harita Nickel, an&nbsp;integrated nickel processing company, is committed to maintaining <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/id/sustainability/human-rights/we-and-the-community/health-programs" target="_blank">public health</a>, especially around the operational area of Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku. One of them is by supporting the government's target of an AIDS-free Indonesia by 2030.&nbsp;
By collaborating with the local community, the company is optimistic that it can break the chain of deadly virus spread in its operating area on Obi Island.
Panji Setyadi, Harita Nickel's Community Development Superintendent, said that efforts to prevent and eliminate HIV/AIDS cannot be undertaken by one party alone, but require the involvement of various stakeholders. He believes this spirit is in line with the 2023 World AIDS Day theme, "Moving together with the community to end AIDS by 2030."
"That's why we have representatives from the local government, specifically the health department, youth, vulnerable groups, and people living with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) to give testimonies," he said during a socialization event held at the Subdistrict Health Center in the new settlement of Kawasi Village on Friday, December 8, 2023.
Panji continued that the recent AIDS awareness campaign held a few days ago was a manifestation of the company's social responsibility to the surrounding environment. He acknowledged that the industry's presence on Obi Island has attracted migrants from various regions in search of better opportunities.
"We hope that through this educational program, residents and at-risk groups will become more vigilant against the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, so that the cases in Kawasi Village can be reduced to zero," he added.
Husein Al Hadar, Head of the Disease Control and Eradication and Environmental Health Division (P2PL) of the South Halmahera District Health Office, revealed an increase in HIV/AIDS cases in his area over the past three years. He explained that from 2020 to 2022, there were a total of 88 cases. The latest data from June 2023 shows an additional 22 cases.
In response, he added that the local government is actively conducting community awareness campaigns on the dangers of AIDS and preventive measures through various media. In addition, they are proactively conducting surprise inspections and tests at various nightlife venues.
Husein also addressed the vulnerability of the village of Kawasi due to the massive development of the industry. According to him, a once quiet village has now become densely populated, even busier than Labuha, the district capital. This brings both opportunities and threats, including the spread of AIDS.
"We are grateful that the company has organized this activity for the benefit of all. It is not only for at-risk groups, but for the entire community to be more aware of the dangers of HIV/AIDS and what can be done for prevention," he explained, urging that such activities be continued.
The awareness campaign was conducted in two sessions targeting different audiences. The first session involved dozens of high school students to increase their awareness and knowledge of the dangers of HIV. The second session involved 57 nightlife workers, identified as the most vulnerable group for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially HIV. Following the awareness session, the at-risk group was tested by the health department team.
During the awareness campaign, the company also invited people living with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) to share their experiences. Zulfandi, an active member of LKS Nyinga Rimoi in Kota Ternate who is living with HIV, compared HIV/AIDS cases to the tip of an iceberg. Behind one positive case, he said, there are 100 people suffering from or potentially at risk of contracting HIV.
Based on his experience, Zulfandi, who was diagnosed HIV-positive in his freshman year of high school, said teenagers are the most vulnerable group to infection. This vulnerability arises because teenagers are in a period of self-discovery and curiosity to try new things.
"You are the only ones who can protect yourself. Parents can only supervise you at home, and teachers can help you at school. On the other hand, parents should not restrict their children too much. Instead, they should give them freedom and a sense of responsibility," he said in front of&nbsp;high school students and community representatives.
