Jakarta, June 16th, 2023 - PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), through its associated entity, PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (PT HPL), officially made its initial export of nickel sulphate today, Friday, June 16th, 2023. A total of 5,584 tons of nickel sulphate, packaged in 290 containers, is ready to be shipped to one of NCKL's business partners in China. This marks a significant milestone for NCKL in the nickel downstream business.
The refined nickel sulphate on Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku Province, will be used in the production of high-nickel lithium batteries. The use of these lithium batteries is expected to continue to rise in the future, particularly in the electric vehicle industry.
 
NCKL's President Director, Roy A. Arfandy, stated that the total shipment of nickel sulphate is targeted to reach 240,000 tons per year, in line with the factory's production capacity. The company is also currently in the trial production phase of cobalt sulphate. “Moving forward, the company will strive to send approximately four ships to meet the targeted demand for nickel sulphate production,” said Roy.
 
Roy also expressed his appreciation for the achievement of this initial nickel sulphate shipment. “This is the work of us in Eastern Indonesia, which is an important step for Indonesia to become a key player in the electric vehicle battery industry in the future, as well as a new contributor to the export of downstream nickel products that can drive regional and national economies.”
 
PT Halmahera Persada Lygend recently inaugurated the operation of the first nickel sulphate plant in Indonesia, also the largest in the world in terms of production capacity, on May 31st. This historic moment was attended and inaugurated by the Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Septian Hario Seto.
 
In his speech last May, Seto conveyed that this achievement is impressive and extraordinary, demonstrating how local and foreign investors can collaborate effectively. “The mining and downstream operations carried out by NCKL are among the best. This was revealed by international consultants who can certify the mining and production processes,” said Seto. It is known that Seto's visit to the Obi Island site operated by NCKL at the end of May was accompanied by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (BMI) consultants.
 
Currently, NCKL continues to strive to enhance the nickel resource industry value chain by producing cobalt sulphate. Alongside nickel sulphate, this concentrate is a crucial element in the formation of cathode precursors for electric vehicle batteries. “Being a manufacturing company of new energy materials that prioritizes environmental management, community empowerment, and contributes to the development of the industry is our medium-term target,” concluded Roy.

Proud Moment! Indonesia's First Nickel Sulphate Exporting Today

Halmahera Selatan, 13 Juni 2023 &mdash;Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), also known as Harita Nickel, supports coastal clean up program initiated by Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to commemorate World Environment Day which is celebrated every June 5. This support was realized through a beach clean-up event in Kawasi village, Obi Island, South Halmahera on Saturday (10/6) last weekend.
The beach clean-up event in Kawasi village involving representatives of PT TBP employees and its business affiliates, as well as Kawasi residents which is also part of PT TBP's Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) program in environmental sector. This is also part of the company's commitment in preserving ecosystem and environment around its operational area, particularly in the coastal village of Kawasi.
In addition to representatives of employees and Kawasi Village community, also participated the Head of South Halmahera Environmental Agency (DLH), Samsu Abubakar and his staff, representatives of Kawasi Village Government, and a joint TNI / Police officers.
Head of Mining Engineering of PT TBP Primus Priyanto, representing the management, stated that this voluntary beach clean-up in Kawasi village entitled "Indonesia Costal Clean Up 2023" was to commemorate the Environment Day 2023 and also to support the KLHK program.
"We invite all parties, both local villagers, company workers and the Kawasi village government, supported by the Environmental Agency, to jointly maintain environmental cleanliness, particularly on the coast by reducing plastic waste," Primus said.
Through this activity, it is also hoped that local residents can be more concerned about environmental conditions around the beach where they live and be more responsible for waste problems.
Meanwhile, Head of the South Halmahera Environmental Agency (DLH) Samsu Abubakar expressed his appreciation to PT TBP for its efforts to protect environment around its mining operational area. According to Samsu, this activity is very good to maintain public health in Kawasi village and employees who work in the company.
Samsu emphasized that maintaining environmental cleanliness should be the responsibility of everyone without exception.
"There needs to be collaboration between village governments, companies and local communities to keep the environment clean. It is also important to hold regular socialization to raise awareness and attention in the community towards their surrounding environment," he said.
Suryo Aji, Community Development Superintendent of PT TBP, as the coordinator of this event explained that this program is part of the company's commitment to protect environment around its operational area.
"[This] activity has become a routine monthly and annual agenda to continue to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem and environmental sustainability in Kawasi village," he said. 
In addition, Suryo Aji added, to support better waste management, his company will also provide assistance on how to process organic waste into compost involving a number of groups of residents living on the coast. The company will also seek to distribute more trash cans to every corner of the village to make it easier for people to throw garbage in its place.

Celebrating World Environment Day, Harita Nickel Holds Indonesia Coastal Clean Up 2023 at Kawasi Beach

South Halmahera, June 7, 2023 – PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) / HARITA Nickel announces the launch of a vocational program called “Enhancement of Youth Skill” (PELITA) aimed at improving the skills of its local workers. The first batch of this program is attended by 14 participants, who have been carefully selected from hundreds of non-skilled workers. They will undergo a two-month training to become loader operators.
The launch of the PELITA program was attended by the Head of the South Halmahera Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans), Adriani Radjiloen, and the Chairman of Parliament, Muhlis Djafaar, at HARITA Nickel's operational area, Obi Island, on Monday (5/6).
 
Rico W. Albert, Technical Support Head Department, representing the management of Harita Nickel (PT TBP), explained that the PELITA program is part of Harita Nickel's Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM) in the field of Education. The objectives of this program include enhancing the skills and capabilities of the communities around the company's operations.
 
“This vocational program is in line with HARITA Nickel’s commitment to support sustainability in both social and business aspects by meeting the demand for skilled workers,” Rico said.
 
Rico further stated that the PELITA vocational program is an implementation of the company's commitment to enhancing the quality of human resources from the surrounding community. “Additionally, PELITA also supports the government's program in developing vocational education that aligns with industry needs,” he said.
 
In the first batch of this training, all the selected participants will acquire the knowledge and skills required to become loader operators. The training will cover technical subjects, hands-on practice, and classroom learning led by experienced instructors. Participants will gain deep understanding of loader operations and maintenance, including strict workplace safety principles. Additionally, participants will receive mental and physical coaching (Bintalsik).
 
Ardiani Radjiloen, Head of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration (Disnakertrans) in South Halmahera, expressed support for the PELITA program organized by the company. “On behalf of the South Halmahera Regional Government and specifically the Department of Manpower, we are very grateful, appreciative, and fully support the PELITA program implemented by Harita,” said Ardiani.
 
Ardiani hopes that the PELITA program does not stop at this point. “We hope that this program continue in a sustainable manner by conducting other trainings according to the company's needs,” she said. With this program, it is expected that the company's need for skilled workers can be fulfilled from the local community.
 
Meanwhile, Dasri Samadi, a resident of Laiwui, Obi District, one of the participants of the PELITA program, who had previously worked as a daily laborer (THL) at PT HJF for 3 months, expressed his appreciation for the PELITA program organized by the company. “This program helps those wanting to become operators but lack the necessary skills or prior experience,” Dasri said. He also hopes that upon completing this training, he will become a competent operator and work at the company.

Working to enhance the skills of local workers, HARITA Nickel kicks-off ‘PELITA’ vocational program

SOUTH HALMAHERA, May 31, 2023 &mdash; Harita Nickel, through its business unit PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (PT HPL), a business affiliate of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), has once again become a pioneer in the nickel downstream industry by inaugurating the first nickel sulfate production operation in Indonesia, which is also the largest in the world. The inauguration of the nickel sulfate production operation, with a capacity of 240 thousand tons per year, took place in the operational area of Harita Nickel on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023. Nickel sulfate is a primary material used in the production of cathode precursors for electric vehicle batteries. 
The inauguration of the nickel sulfate production operation was marked by the unveiling of a plaque, with the signing ceremony conducted by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, represented by the Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination, Septian Hario Seto. This was followed by an inspection of the nickel sulfate production operations at the PT HPL plant, which utilizes High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology. Present at the inauguration event were the Regent of South Halmahera, Usman Sidik, as well as the management team of Harita Group and Lygend Resources Technology Co. Ltd.
In his speech, Tonny H. Gultom, the Director of PT Halmahera Persada Lygend, stated that Harita Nickel, in collaboration with Lygend Resources Technology Co., Ltd, has once again made a new milestone after producing Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) as a raw material for electric vehicle batteries in June 2021, thus becoming a pioneer in the industry in Indonesia. “Today, we have achieved yet a new historic milestone, where all of you will witness the inauguration of the nickel sulfate (NiSO4.6H2O) plant, which is also produced by PT Halmahera Persada Lygend,” Tonny said.
Tonny claims that the nickel sulfate plant established on Obi Island will be the first of its kind in Indonesia and the largest in the world in terms of production capacity. “In terms of NiSO4 production capacity, the company will continue to refine and increase its capacity to reach 240,000 metric tons per year with a nickel metal content of 54,000 tons per year, targeted to be achieved in mid-Q2 2023,” Tonny stated. The inaugural export of nickel sulfate is planned to take place in June 2023.
Tonny revealed that on the mineral-rich Obi Island, Harita Nickel has consistently built an integrated mining industry from upstream to downstream. Starting with mining activities in 2010 through PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk, Harita Nickel has embraced the government's mandate for downstream development. Since 2015, Harita Nickel has pursued downstream operations by processing high-grade nickel (saprolite) through PT Megah Surya Pertiwi, which operates 4 (four) ferronickel production lines.
“In 2018, we began to build downstream processing for low-grade limonite nickel, which had been treated as overburden, into Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate,” Tonny explained. This downstream industry officially commenced operations in June 2021 through the affiliate company PT Halmahera Persada Lygend. Furthermore, another subsidiary of Harita Nickel, PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (PT HJF), has completed the construction of a ferronickel smelter with 8 production lines in the first semester of 2023.
“This downstream development spirit is integrated into the form of a business roadmap, which until today, with pride and gratitude, hand in hand with our partner from Lygend Resources Technology Co., Ltd, has successfully reached a new milestone with the production of nickel sulfate,” Tonny emphasized.
On the other hand, Septian Hario Seto, the Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, stated that Harita Nickel's achievements were truly remarkable and historic. “We are repeating history from two years ago when we inaugurated the first HPAL plant together with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment. This is something to be proud of, as today we are inaugurating nickel sulfate, which is a derivative product of nickel that can be further processed into precursors,” said Septian. According to him, this success is highly impressive and exceptional as it demonstrates how local and foreign investors can collaborate effectively.
Septian added that the HPAL plant on Obi Island is one of the plants with excellent operational management. “If we look at HPAL plants worldwide, it takes years for them to ramp up their capacity, but here, with this new technology, we were able to increase the capacity within a few months,” he said. “We have also recently conducted an audit of the entire mining industry area, and Obi Island stands out as one of the best in terms of its management,” Septian explained.
Septian also advised that the good environmental management on Obi Island should continue. Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of contributing to the local community, implementing targeted CSR programs, and providing effective community assistance. “I believe this will create harmony and mutual understanding between the company and the community,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Zhang Bao Dong, the Director of PT Halmahera Persada Lygend and representative of Lygend Resources Technology Co., Ltd, expressed in his speech that Lygend is proud to collaborate with Harita Group and achieve the HPAL plant and its derivative, nickel sulfate.
“We sincerely hope that in the future, Harita and Lygend will collaborate to build downstream industries and create a sustainable economic impact,” said Zhang. He further expressed his commitment to continue constructive efforts in developing further downstream activities within the electric vehicle battery ecosystem originating from Obi Island.
Meanwhile, the Regent of South Halmahera, Usman Sidik, expressed his pride in witnessing PT HPL’s success as the first nickel sulfate producer in Indonesia. “This is extraordinary for us, and we hope it will positively impact the people of South Halmahera,” Usman said.

Official! Indonesia has the first nickel sulfate factory in Indonesia and the largest in the world

Jakarta, May 24, 2023 - PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), through its subsidiary PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (PT HPL), is ready to produce nickel sulfate. NCKL Corporate Secretary Franssoka Y Sumarwi said that the nickel sulfate plant located in Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku Province has now entering into a significant improvement or ramping up stage to reach full production capacity. This nickel sulfate plant is the first one in Indonesia and the largest in the world by production capacity.
"PT HPL has successfully produced battery grade nickel sulfate for the first time on March 25, 2023. We are very grateful as this is a new milestone achievement in new energy resources in Indonesia," Franssoka said. 
Indonesia will be listed as a producer of raw materials for electric vehicle battery cathode precursors and its position in the electric vehicle battery industry map will be more prestigious. Franssoka further revealed that NCKL continues to refine and increase its production until reaching a total production capacity of 240 thousand metric tons (MT) of nickel sulfate per year which is expected in mid-2023.

The company, which previously pioneered in producing a mixture of nickel and cobalt, Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) in 2021, is not only producing nickel sulfate. The downstreaming and refining of MHP will also produce cobalt sulfate (CoSO4). Nickel sulfate and cobalt sulfate are the core materials for making new energy source cathodes, namely electric vehicle batteries. 
"These two compounds are a real success example of conservation and mineral added value improvement, as they come from a low grade nickel ore or limonite processing and refining that previously could not be processed or became overburden. The right technology, namely High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) and a high work ethic make this possible," Franssoka added. 
PT HPL's production capacity allows the company to process and refine its entire MHP production into nickel sulfate and cobalt sulfate. However, by 2023, the NCKL subsidiary only plans to process around 50 percent of MHP into nickel sulfate. PT HPL is also exploring sales with several potential buyers and the first export of nickel sulfate is expected to be carried out in early June 2023. 
"In the future, the company will continue to improve its entire nickel resource industry chain, as well as become a new energy material manufacturing company that prioritizes environmental management and community empowerment and contributes to industrial development," Franssoka concluded.

First in Indonesia, NCKL Successfully Produces Electric Vehicle Battery Materials: Nickel Sulfate

OBI ISLAND, May 23, 2023 &mdash; Harita Nickel has consistently implemented Environment, Social and Government (ESG) principles through a mangrove rehabilitation program in South Halmahera, North Maluku. No doubt, commitment of this integrated nickel mining and downstream company group operating in Obi Island has drawn compliments.
Appreciation expressed by a team from Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment&nbsp;Affairs (Kemenko Marves), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) during a working visit to Harita Nickel site in Kawasi Village, Obi District, South Halmahera, on Saturday-Sunday, May 20-21, 2023.
Fatma Puspitasari, Coordinator of Forest Utilization and Conservation Control of Kemenko Marves, said visit was conducted by a team of three ministries in order to monitor and evaluate the Joint Memorandum of Understanding (NKB) and Cooperation Agreement (PKS) Mangrove Rehabilitation to support the national target of 600,000 ha of mangrove land by 2024.

Fatma expressed her appreciation to PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (PT TBP), Harita Nickel's business entity as a mandated holder of the National Strategic Project (PSN) Obi Industrial Estate, which has implemented a partnership program with the government through social and environmental responsibility schemes.
In fact, she emphasized, PT TBP had carried out similar activities prior to the NKB and PKS signing of mangrove rehabilitation with Coordinating Ministry of Marves on November 17, 2022. Since 2021, she added, the company has partnered with Khairun University of Ternate to carry out a series of mangrove plantation and rehabilitation activities by empowering local communities.
According to her, such mangrove rehabilitation and various environmental conservation programs that have been carried out by the company serve as proof of Harita Nickel's commitment to sustainable business governance in accordance with ESG principles.
"Of course this is also an added value for PT TBP as a public company," she said.
Appreciation is also expressed to all companies in the Harita Nickel business unit that have implemented Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) programs to encourage economic self-sufficiency of their surrounding communities.
Restoration Coordinator of Coastal and Small Island Utilization Directorate (P4K) at Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Hery Gunawan Daulay emphasized on the importance of mangroves for marine ecology. He said mangroves function as a buffer zone to protect coastal areas from damage.
"If we want to see fish and marine biota grow well, of course we need to maintain marine ecology by maintaining coastal ecosystems. The abundance of fish and marine life can be utilized economically by people, of course, in moderation," he explained.
Furthermore, he encourages that Harita Nickel's mangrove rehabilitation program can continue so that more mangrove land can be added from year to year. 
"We encourage companies to preserve coastal ecosystems in various ways. Not only mangroves, but also coral reefs and seagrasses. We saw its seagrass potential is also quite high," he said while monitoring mangrove planting sites in the coastal area of Soligi Village, Obi Subdistrict.
Meanwhile, Environmental Marine Compliance Manager of Harita Nickel, Windy Prayogo said mangrove rehabilitation program as part of social and environmental responsibility, consistently carried out by the company until now. 
He explained, total land that has been planted mangroves as of early 2023 is 23.73 ha with a total of mangroves that have been planted at least 40 thousand seedlings. The mangrove rehabilitation program is spread across four locations in South Halmahera Regency, including Soligi Village in Obi Subdistrict, Awango and Belang-Belang Villages in Bacan Subdistrict and Guruapin Village in Kayoa Subdistrict. 
Director of Health, Safety and Environment Harita Nickel Tonny H Gultom explained, mangrove rehabilitation activities aim to preserve coastal ecosystems so that they can provide benefits for both environment and society. 
According to Tonny, collaboration of many parties is needed to succeed the program. Therefore, Harita Nickel collaborates with academics and government, while empowering local communities in nursery activities, planting and self-supporting monitoring of mangrove conditions on the ground. 
"We hope that mangrove forests that have been successfully rehabilitated will become a source of livelihood and welfare for the community," Tonny said.
In addition to mangrove rehabilitation, company also makes various efforts to preserve marine ecology. The marine monitoring program includes monitoring of seawater quality, marine sediment quality, and marine biota including plankton, benthos, coral reefs and reef fish. He emphasized that this program is supported by sea monitoring vehicles and equipment with proven technology.
He added that the company, which has been officially listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) through its entity PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), in early April achieved compliance status for its environmental management and monitoring from the North Maluku Provincial Environmental Agency.
